1st gen confusion?

Ill tell the story then ask the question..

I was on the road that leads out from our school tonite and traffic was getting a bit heavy meaning get out of the intersection and on the the road as quick as possible...

well...I accomplished my goal...but, when i saw my window of opportunity I womp it to get out into the road so i dont get hit...as i am doing this i hear *SCRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH!* I hear a loud tire squeeling...I realize it was me.. My car has never done that before, i wonder why it chooses to do these things now..guess since i changed my fouled (sp) plugs it gained alot of power back..

my question is how many of you have been confused to your proteges perfomance? when it REALLY suprises/impresses you..

A few years ago I drove from Spokane, Washington to Las Vegas. I think it was about 1100 miles and I averaged about 70 miles an hour. Averaged, which means most of the time I was going a whole lot faster. I remember passing new cars that had pulled over to the side of the highway and popped thier hoods because they had overheated. I blew by them at about 100 miles an hour with a car pushing 200,000 miles. I chuckled all the way to the casinos. What a car, it never ceases to amaze me. I do not push the car as hard as I used to because it now has about 218,000 miles. The fastest I ever ran it was down towards your neck of the woods. We were traveling down I-81 in western Virginia on our way to Kentucky. I got into line with three other cars in the middle of the night and we all rolled at a little better than 120 MPH for just over an hour. Then as different cars took exits, we slowed it down a bit. It was good to find out what the car was capable of though.

Holy wow, for over an hour? that must have been a beautiful ride, and with 200,000 miles, my car is barely over 129,000 and ive only had it to 110mph..

Yeah i couldnt believe it either, Ive got a 91 protege dx with 115,300 (something like that) on it. This car at the moment is completely stock exept for the sound system i put in a while ago. At the moment im waiting for a new muffler to come in the mail but fedex sucks..so anyway. My friends uncle bought him a 1999 mitsubishi eclipse with rims and a system and such...sort of riced out with green underglows.....i pulled up next to him at a red light after 2 days of driving the car since i got my license and i was still fumbling with the manual trans but i hit it PERFECT and got the nice SCREEEECCCCHHHHH from both wheels and smoke billowed all over the place...and it wasnt some chirp either i lit them up for at least 3-4 seconds before just accelerating...i was more then impressed, i felt unstoppable because his $15,000 car cant do what my $400 car did. I also beat him in top speed...haha and this is still STOCK getting over 30 mpg.

On a side note can ANYBODY help me out here? im gonna keep this question simple....i dont like my mazdas air limiter/detector crap....i tried taking it off but i got nothing but a not starting engine....and i wanna setup ram air for the thing since its got potential but at the moment im stuck...and im sure anyone working on these cars has gotten the same problem i had, anyone know off hand how to help me?
