1994 323 - Backup lights
 

The backup lights on our 1994 323 are not working. I checked the bulbs, both ok. So, I went to the fuesbox, and there is no fuse specifically for the backup lights. So, I pulled out my trusty Haynes manual and started reading the wiring diagrams, but nowhere did it indicate on which fuse the backup lights are on!

Does anyone know which fuse controls the backup lights?

you could just put all the fuses and sometime you will find the one that is not right.

the back-up lights are on the "METER" fuse (15amp) in the underdash fuse box.

i did that....but i would like to figure out exactly which one it is, so I can trace the interruption from the power source through the switch, to the lights....

thanks...thats all i need to know. It would've been a lot easier if it had just indicated this in the Haynes manual. (unless i'm blind and i didn't see it)

does anyone know which one is the license plate lights fuse? i have a 90' protege lx and they don't work. my taillights and turn signals all work, just not the plate lights. i tried a different bulb but it still didn't work. also, i don't have a sunroof, but when i was putting in my cd changer i needed a place on the fuse block under the dash to wire it up, and it said "sunroof". i thought i'd be ok pulling that one out since i don't have a sunroof, but could this be causing it?

since you say all the other "parking lights" work, then it's not a fuse problem, as they are all on the same circuit (red/black wire) the problem lays in one of the folowing; bulbs, socket, plug wires/harness.

As for the sunroof fuse, while i DO NOT recommened this type of connection, it's on a different circiut and if you must, make sure your wire is connected to the protected side of the fuse. The sunroof circuit runs through the ignition switch and then on to a main 80amp under hood fuse. So you could damage the ign swtich.

i bought 2 new sockets from mazda a couple weeks back but those didn't help at all. is it in the wiring then? would that mean i have to rip apart everything and try and find the short? that would not be fun.

as for the sunroof, is it still harmful to wire it in there, even though i don't have one?

i removed the connector from my cd changer that i put in the sunroof spot on the fuse block. i was looking for another place to put it. i found one that was for the rear wiper, but since i have a sedan and don't have one, would this be a better spot?

no, the best spot to get power is either the battery or connected to the main thick 12v power wire in the main ignition harness. You will need to add a fuse inline.

ok, this is the setup. i have a wire coming from the fm modulator, going through the fire wall and connecting to the negative terminal. then i have another wire, with a fuse inline, wired into the fuse block in the kick panel, both of these were done as instructed in the instructions. i just didn't know which slot to put the one in on the fuse block. it should be fine though since it has a fuse inline right?
