Why not tighten bolts while 'in the air'?

Ok its a 'dummy' question ;), but.....what's the harm in tightening suspension stuff before lowering the car?
I have a feeling my mechanics tightened everything(LCA's, TTL, etc) WHILE it was on the lift. The manual, though, says to *loosely* tighten everything and THEN torque it AFTER lowering the car.....which makes perfect sense.
So... i'm just wondering if there's any harm in driving the car until i get a chance to retorq everything properly.......

there are no dummy questions, just dummies who don't ask them.

i see no harm in a little stint, but poly will keep a deformed shape after a while.
