Valve stem caps...

My valve stem caps seem to be stuck on my vavle stems. I have aluminum ones (is it aluminum? well they aren't rubber), and I went to check my tire pressure the other day and they won't come off:mad: HOw can I get em off w/o messing something up?

Maz94Protege March-28th-2002 08:22 PM

are they little chrome ones? if they have a bolt pattern on them ( looks like you could put a small socket on them) then take an adjustable wrench and try to unscrew them....thats all i can think of.:D

I tried that but they valve stem spins along with it. I think imma just see if the valvoline guys that change my oil take it off since they are the ones that mess with the tire pressure.

Should I use antiseize nextime?

unless they used a wrench on them I would think it would be pretty hard to get them on very far crossed threaded.....I HAVE seen aluminum caps before...and I have seen the oxydize to the point that they were frozen on....only way off...was replacing the valve stems

be very careful trying to remove them....if you rip up the valve stem....there you are with a flat. and IF you take it to the place that changes your oil....and THEY screw one up...don't be surprised if they shaft you cause THEY are not a tire shop....they just change oil.

Are ALL four stuck like that? or just one or two? you couuld always try shooting some wd-40 on them or something to help.....

if you end up replaceing the valve stems...just get plastic caps in the future....you can even get them chrome if you want.

I wasn't the one that tightened it like that, it was the tire place that rotated my tires two months ago. I recently wanted to check my tire pressure b/c it looked like they were due for a check. It has been really cold up here for a while but I don't know how that would make it stick like they are sticking.
Before I do I will try some wd40 and see if that work but if I guess i'm going to get some new stems

If they are able to crack it will the valve stems be ok or do I still have to replace em?

Elchulo April-15th-2002 10:21 PM

Purchased some new stems and found a guy that's gonna do the job for $30... not too bad:cool:
