strut tower questions

im interested in getting a front strut tower bar....

i was wondering what you guys are using, and how you like it, and if there are some that are out for different models that will also work on a 1st gen. also websites that they can be found... and feel free to include pics

IMO, the best are solid one peice bars, like the old RMM and OEM jspec GTX/GTR. (not counting V bracing or other crazy stuff) No idea where to get one in the US anymore, but you could try to get one imported from overseas.

the other type, is a 3 peice, 2 mounting plates and 1 bar. The bar bolts to the plates, which bolt to the strut towers. Ractive make them, Corksport has some, Mazdaspeed and Mazdaspeed CS series, although you must be a racer/member to get the Mazdaspeed bars at the discount price. I happen to have an Autotech 3pc rear bar, since the sedan design by nature is pretty ridgid at the towers, i felt i could skimp and get a 3pc...shhhh :) Looks just like the one in the pic below. I got it off ebay, never seen one like it again since...??? it could be one of the others under a different name for all i know. I don't care, it works! :D

i bought one off ebay that looks just like the second pic you posted....

but when it arrived here, it was the 'mx6 probe v6' not the 'mx3 protege' bar and after a week of emailing back and fourth and them not believing me, i finally sent them pics and they told me to send it back and pay for shipping...but i figure i will tell them to take there strut bar and shove it up their @$$!!

anybody need a mx6 or probe strut tower bar? hahaha

I'm not sure about first gens, but the probe gt mx6 V-6 model WILL fit on second gens with minor modifications.
Try put it up in the for sale section here and see what happens.
If I had the skrilla I'd take it off your hands.

I have both front and rear strut tower bars. MY car is still stock height. But the Strut Bars do a tremendious job. I have hardly any body roll. and i feel alot more comfortable comin around a turn doin bout 70. lol. The 1st gens can use MX3 Strut Bars (which is what i bought) bout $45+shipp from ebay a year ago when i bought em. U can find em now for $20-$35 + shipp. Its a good investment if u ask me.

the GT-R strut bar part # is B528-56-49XE

IMO it is the beefiest 1st gen strut bar I have seen. Unfortunately this part is no longer available from Mazda Motorsports... try an importer though.... should be easier with that part #

i ordered the ractive rear and front bars from a place in niagara.....the front one was delayed and the other they sent was for the MX 6 and 626.....so i had to send it back.....BASTARDS...anyways...can't wait to hav them on .... i am paying $45 canadian for the rear and i can't remember the $$$ for the front..... will i notice a difference..???

and when i install them ...do i have to clamp the suspension....or do i just remove the bolts and slip it on???

anyone got instructions on how to install?

for my front strut bar, I just remove the bolts and put it on while the car was firm on the ground. I assume the back will be the same thing. I felt a little difference when I put the front strut bar. the car felt much more stable when cornering hard.

yes, remove strut tower bolts while car is firmly on the ground, front or rear and install the bar(s)

When I installed my front bar I raised the car so that both wheels were off the ground. I installed the bar with the arching flat, then turned it to it's proper position. One end has left hand threads while the opposing end is normal. It didn't come with instructions, so i figured this was the way to do it. That way there is a stress on the bar. What good is it if there is no load on it?

Coool....i was just making sure....i don't want to mess with allicgnment or anything...i appreciate it..i should get the barz in a couple of days....

just wanted to double check ....b/c the company i'm getting the barz from says they can't find them fpr the protege.....

the front and rear strut bars for the 92 protege are the same as the ones on the mx3...

just want to double check ...

i just ordered a front strut bar from ebay that said it's for 90-98 protege. this will fit my '90 lx rite? i'm hoping so because i don't wanna hassle with sending it back and everything. i just wasn't sure because i know that 1st gen is 90-94 and 2nd gen is 95-98. thanks guys
