strut bearings
ok so i bought some tokico s/r struts, yah the set of four for $160. now just over a year i busted the two front struts, why i think i have a clue. im thinking it was because of the "stock" bearings i was using. anyone know where to get the zx2 struts bearings besides ford?
|
people are saying that they got em from oemfordparts.com but i cant find em!
|
Call them and talk to Terresa Valley, the Ford Part No. is F8CZ18198AAA Front Strut Upper Bearing
then check my how-to www.mazdaracer.com god only knows how you went a year with the wrong bearings...it must have pulled in all directions....anyway, the reason is the ZX2 S/R strut shafts are 2mm thicker than our stock ones. (20mm vs 22mm) |
arent there also rear upper bushings i need for the back as well?
whats the part # for those? |
unless you have 4 wheel steering, you don't need em :)
the thrust bearings allow smooth rotation of strut/spindle/rotor/wheel for steering purposes. Without it or with a dmamaged one or the wrong one, steering would be comprimised, as well as the spring binding up. |
hah! That explains my funky steering coming up to stopsigns under light braking. I just took my old ones and dremelled them out, because I didn't know where to find the replacement bearings. I think I'll give Southwest Ford (oemfordparts.com) a call and get those thrust bearings before my struts break.... eek! i just bought them last year..
Heh.. First, I called my local Ford place here in town where I work, and they can get them for me tomorrow morning, and they're only 23 bucks each. Oemfordparts has them for 18, but then there's shipping and time, and all that. I kinda like this ford dealer, They're the only one around my area that i've found does Ford Racing parts, and they also have Roush Mustangs! --sarge |
Ha my local Ford dealer wanted $75 a set. I hung up on him.

yah thats why i used the stock bearings and dremeled them a little, but still the suspension doesnt feel right. i guess i have no choice but to pay that much $##$@ money.
