EIBACH SPRING owners
 

I have a question for all those who put the Eibachs on their cars.
When you go over bumps (big or small/Fast or slow) do you get any clunking noise from the springs or is the car just as quiet as it was stock? Im asking because the B+G springs I have on my car make a clunking noise when I go over bumps. I know that it is from the "dead" coils in the springs hitting each other. I am trying to decide on which spring to use for replacement of the B+Gs. Any help or input would be golden.

i have H&R springs installed on my car. when i first got them installed i got more of a clicking noise - turns out the sway bars weren't tightened when the installers put the springs in ... f*ckers!

got them tightened and no more noise over bumps ...

Thanks for your input on the springs. So far Ive had 1 person say that they make noise and 2 that say they are quiet like the factory ones. I appreciate it.

I have Eibachs installed also. No noise at all. The sway bar end links not being tightened will cause noise. The rear springs are shorter than the strut travel, so if they aren't zip tied they can also cause noise if they jump out of the seats.

Thanks Eric. I was wondering if they shifted around in the perches like the B+Gs do. Im looking for springs that don't do that. My end-links are nice and tight. I know that part of the reason is because the strut travel isn't matched to the springs. I'm gonna be getting the Mazdaspeed adj struts and the Mazdaspeed springs to solve this problem since they are made to be used together. Thanks for the input.

Jeremy, there's an easy fix for the shorter rear springs. Drill a couple of holes around the upper and lower spring seats and zip tie the seats to the struts.
Going the route your going sounds even better though. Recently, I've noticed that the front of my car doesn't seem to have enough travel with the Eibach springs. I also read there is a bump steer issue with the Protege front suspension when lowered over an inch.
I've ordered the Racing Beat springs and stabilizer bars to go with my MazdaSpeed adjustable struts. The Racing Beat springs lower the car .875", which is slightly more than the MP3 springs. Racing Beat said Mazda took their prototype design and changed it for production, so they aren't exactly sure what the MP3 spring rate is. Racing Beat increased the front and rear spring rates by 21%. I'm trying to duplicate the prototype MP3 suspension first, with the addition of the adjustable struts, and improve on it from there.

Ive heard that you can use the MP3 sway bars with the Mazdaspeed struts. I guess they have a mounting point for the end-links on the struts like the MP3. I priced getting all the MP3 suspension parts but it ended up being $1600.00 for everything. I will probably get the Mp3 sways after. Still be cheaper than the dealer set-up. Better too.

The funny thing about the MazdaSpeed struts is the front struts have even more bracing than the MP3 struts. The rear struts don't however, they seem to have the same mount as the stock struts.

Eric F, how is the ride quality overall with the Eibachs + the Mazdaspeeds?

The problem is I already own the Eibach springs (just not installed), is the lack of travel in the front end something you'd consider dangerous or a big negative? or is it just personal preference making you get the RB springs..

My question is: will it be good enough for me? ;)

I need to know because I'm also doing the Mazdaspeed struts and I want to install both at the same time and don't have time for the shop I'm dealing with to screw me over on labor 2x if I dont like the eibachs..

David, the struts are great, the adjustability comes in handy when tuning the suspension for a particular surface or application. The springs aren't bad, it's more of a personal preference for me considering the condition of the roads here in Chicago. I've had the springs on for quite a while with no problems at all. It's not that difficult to change the springs/struts, consider trying it yourself to save on installation costs.
