Custom Strut Tower Bars - Are you Interested?

Hey Guys,

As some of you know i am making front strut tower bars for our 1st gens. These are going to be one peice bars. Mandrel bent 1.5" diameter 4130 Chromoly bars with mild steel 1/8" thick mounting plates. The prototype is ready, i will pick it up on Wednesday of this week.

What i need here is a list of interested ppl. I know some of you have already expressed interest, but if you could please post here to make it official :) The bars will come powder coated the same color as the lower tie bars (Metallic Grey) Unless there is more demand for a silver color.

This thread is merely to gauge the interest and initial quantity of the first run. The Sign-ups, order info, pics and details will be in the "Group Buys" forums. I will provide a link here after wednesday, when i have the part in hand.

Not sure as of yet, the design changed a few times. I will have all the details once i pick it up and make sure it fits good.

ballpark is around $150-180 All depends on how many i order and how the design changes effect material and labor.

Stop making all these good group buys -- you're breaking the bank :D

I'm in ! :)

mazdaspeedwest July-17th-2003 09:18 AM

Well, i'm gonna need a bit more time for these....wires got crossed and a small detail left out....bottom line...design was wrong, back to square one.

Sorry guys, this was my bad, i gave him a wrong dimension. But we came up with a few other ideas that we'll explore and go from there.

It's not over!!! :):)

2. Chastan
3. Kagekun
4. Protoss
5. Bbthum
6. Zenilder
7.
8.
7.
10.

Hope to get 10 to start, but will go with what we have if nobody else steps up....thier loss :) So step up!

Ideas are still being kicked around and my time has been very limited. but i hope to have something within 1-2 weeks.

mazdaspeedwest August-4th-2003 02:09 AM

I'll try to get both done at the same time. So yes, a kit.

The hard part is the fact i must pull these parts off my car....and i've had some on, some off for the past few races and the car is different each time.....kinda frustrating

on a small side note, my front lower tie bar has been off some awhile now. I put it back on for last nights race and wow, it's a new car all over again. Back to normal :) Amazing how much of a difference it really makes.

Put me on the list for a maybe...I will have to see what they look like, price, D all of the above. ;p

Thanks,

Are these bars similar (or better than, perhaps) to the stock bar that can be found on GTX's?

Sad News guys...for now the Strut bars are on a permanent hold.
1) the shop is slammed with work, hard to get tooling and new jigs made and then start making the parts.
2) In order to do them right, they'd be expensive. Cost is secondary to quality, but with that comes a higher price...I don't like the numbers i'm hearing.
3) In order for it to be worthwhile, an order of 50-100 bars would be needed...thats out of my range right now, way out.
4) i'm still thinking, but it looks rough. I don't want to compromise quality for price and if i can't make them the way i want them, i won't make them at all. There's enough cheap to mediocore stuff out there.
5) I did locate a shop that does metal shaping and laser cutting, so i can make a kick ass bar, but at what cost....$200 for a strut bar is way overkill, unless your a hardcore racer, a street car is just not really worthy. I am just being real, i don't want to make mediocore bar, i wanna make a bitchin bar... FIND ME 50-100 ORDERS!!!! :):):)

proto 420 February-8th-2004 11:18 PM

I live in costa mesa and i want front and rear bars and I also have 2 more 1st gens I am building

gcfinest17 February-11th-2004 10:44 PM

WTF August-26th-2004 03:05 PM

why customize?

Why buy a 150 dollar strut bar when you can buy it in any performance store, specially the first gen?

paul chris September-25th-2004 12:45 PM

yes I am in....pm me $$$$$$$$$

lepichichi October-18th-2008 10:45 AM
