Compressing the Rear Break Caliper

This weekend I was changing out the rotors and pads on my girlfriend's '93 protege and I ran into an issue compressing the rear caliper in order to put the new pads on.

I was not able to compress the damn thing so I couldn't change the pads. I give up. What's the secret to compressing the rear calipers?

on the back side of the caliper there is a slot that you can fit an allen wrench into - turn it counterclockwise to bring the piston inward....when you install, turn it clockwise until the pads just touch the disc plate - then back it off 1/3 turn.

The slot Jason speaks of has a 10 or 12mm bolt in it. Remove said bolt and the allen screw adjuster is about 1-1.5" deep inside.
