Coilovers?
Please excuse my ignorance but what is the function of coilovers and how are they used?
I found these on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1860482696 |
Go to their actual site............they don't seem to have the coilovers for the Pro...............................I think what they ment to say was the Miata...................
Anyhow, coilovers are to adjust your ride height...........I think the ones mentioned are like from 1" to 4" ........... |
So they are simply cosmetic?
How do they affect suspension performance? |
ditto, i was also lookin at them. Never heard of the company... Any Good??!!?!?
|
Coilovers work just like regular springs, but gives you the option of adjustable ride height. The spring sits on a threaded collar, with it's lower seat, essentially a big ole nut that moves up and down the collar giving you the changes in ride height. For you this may be a convience, as in the summer you can lower them and in the winter raise them back up for snow clearance. This is also nice for racing, for with Ground Control Coilovers, you can customized the spring rates to get a good balance for the type of racing you do. I know Weapon R coilovers are as is, and do not offer any different rated springs.
Never seen any Dropzone products so i dunno what these guys are all about. |
Are they an alternative to quality springs and struts?
If they go over the existing suspension components, is that like getting new springs then? |
basically any strut can be used with coilovers, but modification has to be done, by cutting the large regular spring perch. Coilover springs are smaller in diameter and generally are equal in diameter from top to bottom. As most regual springs (up front atleast) have a larger bottom diameter than top. There are also coilover spring/strut assemblies, where the strut is tuned to the spring to work as a perfect team. But for our car, there is only one, that i know of, the ZX2 S/R racing kit. But this particular kit, requires constant care, cleaning and lubrication.
Yes an alternative, and Yes, it is just like getting new springs, coilovers, are springs, just in a different configuration. |
