bad bearing
 

i think i got a bad wheel bearing. i put the car on jack stands and took both wheels off then started off in first and OH MY GODDD!!! violent shake occured. It was never that bad when the wheels were on so i told my bro to do the same thing while i got a closer look. at first i thought it was my axle(i recently replaced this myself) but after putting a crobar against the axle then grabbing the strut with my hand i could feel the nock considerably more in the strut. leading me to believe it was a bad bearing. Let me know if im wrong here as i am no pro at this. but more importantly how long do ya'll think i can drive on this. and hopefully it wont cost too much to fix.

If you have a bad bearing you will be able to hear it when you roll down the windows while you are driving on a smooth road.

I just had the front driver-side bearing replaced. It is a pressed in bearing that takes two hours of shop time. Replacing an axle is child's play by comparison.

Once the driver's side was fixed, now I can hear the passenger side bearing starting to go.

Note that if you have aftermarket wheels and the offset isn't quite right, your car can eat bearings. In my case it is probably a coincidence that the bearings went about 5,000 miles after I got new wheels.

yeah, i have 17 inch wheels but i can remember some of the symptoms(slighty less noticable though) from when i first bought the car with some smaller wheels on it. the funny thing is i used to think it was my clutch that was causing the car to rattle when i would first engage in first and second. now i am about 90% sure it has been my bearings the whole time. yeah i got qouted 15 bux and about 30 minutes for the press job.

I have to same thing wrong with my car. If i stand on the gas (when i am racing or so on) and can fill the whole car shake very bading. So more then liking that is what it is. But to answer your other ? is it bad to drive on it? Yes and No. On one hand the car moves and you can still drive but on the other hand it eats the s$%t out of your other parts touching it and around it.

whats the right offset then that wouldnt do harm to our cars?

i just replaced my front wheel bearing if u turn a corner and it makes a wobbling sound ..kinda throbbing its a wheel bearing about 80 for the bearing i think and a couple hours work so figure 180-200 dollars Jon 93 lx

According to the FAQ the correct offset is 45mm.

ok. I replaced both bearings, balljoints, and tie rods this past week. While I had the car apart i noticed my brake pads were worn down uneven and my rotors were worped beyond getting turned at the local parts store. So i ended up spending like 375 dollars on all these parts and to get the bearings pressed. worth it in my opinion(helicopter noise is gone). But i still have one problem. my brake pedal is pulsating when i brake. It didnt do this before i replaced everything so i dont know what it could be and its definately not warped rotors cause i just bought them two nights ago. Maybe i should just slam on the brakes on the highway so the pads can really get seated against the rotors.hehe. any other suggestions would help.
