17s rubbin BAD!

i bought some 17s and through em on my 93 pro. They have 215/40 series tires on them, and dont rub when there is no extra weight in my car, however i had a sub box and two girls in the backseats and my buddy upfront and every single bump my tires would hit the wheel wells.
My question is..Is it the 215 series tire that is makin it rub, or soft ass springs, or maybe need new struts?
i was thinkin bout lowering it, but not if that is gunna happen every two seconds
thanks for the input guys/girls

Yeah loose the friend and make sure they are 100 pounders not 300 pounders.

hehe.. I didn't know the Fat chick/lowered car theory.. nice. I'll remember that. So 215s will fit eh ?

ya 215s fit perfect
and they were skinny chicks dammit!

What offset are the wheels?

G-Man May-12th-2003 08:23 PM

you know, i have no idea what the offset is,
is there a way to check, or better yet, obviously i am gunna get nailed for this question, but what is offset? I've had several conflicting views on that question from all my friends. So i want to get it straightened out by ppl who know what their talkin about (you guys)
thanks

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/tech/offset.htm
I have never had a problem with rubbing and i have the sprint springs. My wheels are 16x7 with a +42mm offset. I run 205/40/16 tires and could and probably will run 205/45/16 the next time around. Ive even had 3 pretty big people (one was pushin 300lbs!) in my back seat w/a sub box in the trunk and never rubbed once. Tires.com suggests to use 205/40/17 size tires with 17" rims. Im not sure if your problem is in the offset or the tires. (what brand of rims are they btw?)

edit..I think it should say your offset on the back of the rim by the lug holes. Look for a +XX or -XX number. The XX will be your offset. And +/- should indicate if you have neg. or pos. offset. At least thats how it is on my wheels.

i found the offset off the site for the rims
its +38
i went to a shop today and asked them and they said i need to get a rim with at least +42 to +44 offset

hey 215 are to huge u need 205 that what u need to run im running them now

celi85 May-23rd-2003 03:52 PM

im running 225's on a slammed 323 and they fit fine and dont rub at all....anymore.

i had to roll the fender lips to get them to quit rubbing. :D

G-Man May-24th-2003 06:16 PM

well i solved the problem, sold the damn rims!!!!
Now with the money guess i'll throw a paint job on, any ideas on what color would be best?
