I thought this might be a mild coincedent ... i tried to start my car up on saturday only to find out that my battery was dead? Im puzzeled here.... making sure nothing was left on...Im checking the lights and made sure that everything is plugged in right (spark plugs... battery... etc...) so I got a jump start on 'er .... It started up fine.
Later that day, I shifted the car in reverse. I tapped on the gas and 3000 rpms later, i was able to back out (hmm... transmission problem??) Thats the first time that ever happend? lol So Im confused here, okay, i wasnt really worried there. I shifted into drive and I pressed the gas (about 1500 rpm's) and I was drifting backwards.
Then the "hold" button starts to blink after the pro starts going. It does this almost everytime I drive..
Could this mean that the reverse gear and my 1st gear in my auto is going up or could it be a solinoid? I believe it blinked about 4 times ... I remeber reading another post that 4 means 1-2 solinoid...

I don't think you can get a diagnostic code out of the hold light, only the check engine light with the diagnostic setting. The blinking hold light does indicated a transmission problem, however. The funny thing is it stops blinking, so yeah, something must not work for a moment and then it starts going. (Not sure if this is symptomatic of a solenoid problem like you suggested)

i dont drive an automatic but maybe you could try shifting a little slower. I know some people that back up fast then dont even wait for the car to stop before theyre already throwin it into drive, that cant be good for a ten yr.+ tranny. just my 2 cents.peace.

eh? always come to a complete stop before shifting in ur AUTO. when my sister gave me the protege, the tranny was messed up already. it takes a while to backup like u said. step on it then 2 seconds later it starts goin.. then like 3 days b4 my tranny completely died the HOLD button would flash. a new tranny is expensive =\ but i could when i got a new one i could tell my old one was messed up..

I never really abused the tranny, only when its raining or when i go near hills..... (thats the only time i would shift ) other than that, I come to a complete stop before i switch from drive to reverse or drive to park ... vice versa...

Now, somebody said that auto tranny's have a "screen" in the pan ... sometimes when it's cold [they said] the tranny fluid could be blocked from the rest of the transmission until it gets hot... anybody ever heard of this??? Also they suggested that the tranny fluid could be leaking .. but I dont see any on the ground. The dip stick for the transmission looks pretty full when hot....
