V6 into protege swap... gimme some info...

hey guys i am debating the various engine swaps that are available for the protege... how expensive is this swap and exactly what is needed to complete it?
how bad is the weight distribution thrown off? how much torque and hp is available from the jap spec v6?
exactly what is the name of the v6?
thanks alot guys... hope this isn't redundant... :blue:

yeah sorry about that... it's a slip of the toung, alot like the headers word. i'll keep it in check... :bt:

A Canadian company called A-spec has swapped several Jspec KL-ZE 200HP 2.5L V6 engines into 1st gen Proteges. Search for more info.

the BPT swap is a bit more cost effective and gives more HP gain. but the V6 is a very close second :D

KLD 170hp (USDM)
KL-ZE 200hp (JDM)

V6 swap:
engine
trans
engine mounts
ECU
harness
axles
brakes/rotors
sub-frame
front suspension

a maybe a few more odds and ends.

ok so let me ask you guys this one... would you do the bpt or the kl swap? i mean the v6 is nice but you can pull a proven, reliable 300+ out of the motor before stuff starts turning to scrap. on the other hand the power you get from a v6 is good, and you have two more cylendars to work with... means you could get more power from cams, from headers and an exhaust...
plus there's the look on every honda owner's face when you show them your v6... hahaa 2.5l baby!!!
oh and the other thing is that i think a 2.5L v6 that spins to 8000 would be fun... anyone else?

I like the V6. It has more low RPM torque, lower piston speeds due to the shorter stroke, so higher RPM and better longevity.

While we're on the subject of engine swaps. Do ya think a 2.2L SOHC 12v turbo out of the 1st gen MX-6 GT's could be worked in there? To me I think this might be a little more cost effective than the KL-ZE. Besides, the torque those things put out is amazing for a four-banger.:D

I don't think it would be more cost effective than the V6. The F2T engine from the 1st Gen Probe/MX-6's has larger bore spacing and deck height than the BP or FS engines. You may have a problem with hood clearance because of the taller deck height, and you would have the same issues with motor mounts, axles etc. as the V6. Also, the longer stroke and higher piston speeds mean lower, less reliable RPM's from the engine compared to the V6.

260ft/lbs @ 3500rpm out of a BPT is not enough torque down low for you? :D

I haven't seen any internal parts available for the 2.5L V6. Not to say the V6 is not a good idea, it is, i toyed with this swap and the BPT for awhile....i ended up going for the turbo. Another thing is, while not a huge biggie, the V6 is a bit heavier than the BPT.

just point to the intercooler, rather than popping your hood

PROTEGE 1st gen with KLZE rocks

Check out www.a-spec.ca

I always fix my car there.. well I rode in a 1st GEN KLZE protege..

It had limited slip and dual air/fuel meters.. EUGENE's tha man..

That car was so fast.. its unbelievable...

I met him twice on the highway, and despite my mods and the fact that he's running stock...

IGOT SMOKED..

He pulls away with ease... Makes my car like a minivan..

He spins in third gear for pete's sake
