turbo tranny

IS there a tranny that will mate up with the turbo 1.8L engine that is NOT all wheel drive? I was told not to put a turbo engine in my car without replacing the tranny too. But the only turbo tranny i can think of is off the GT-R which is AWD. What about the GT-X?:)

where are you getting your information? If that person is paid, fire them.

To be more specific, feel free to turbo your stock tranny. Be prepared to upgrade your clutch if you plan on driving it hard. Other than that, enjoy.

That person wasn't paid, bit i fired them anyway. :) I have to replace the clutch anyway, it's going out. Im teaching my fiancee to drive a clutch right now, and after she's better at it, then ill replace it. Im afraid she will burn out the new one.......

Smart move letting someone learn on the older clutch....I tried learning stick on a Centerforce Dual Friction stage 2....it was very funny as a 16yr old kid with one calf that was 3 times bigger than the other!

Do you currently have the 1.6L or 1.8L SOHC? If so, then yes, you need to upgrade your transaxle. The one you'd want to get is the G-series, from a 1.8L DOHC Protege or Escort GT. In most cases the FWD transaxles are actually stronger than the AWD gearboxes.

Ive actually got the 1.8L DOHC motor. So my tranny that i have should be ok, right? I WAS going to install AWD parts on my car, but that idea went out the window.......

You're good to go. :)

cool, i can't wait until i get the motor. there's a guy on ebay selling J-spec motor/tranny setups for $1,100. He has two of them if anyone is interested. it's the turbo 1.8L DOHC along with the AWD tranny. just look up mazda protege 1.8L motors if ya want to see it.
My car is the same color as your blueish green one. :)
