Trany swap
 

I pulled a motor and trany from my wrecked car(car A) and im gunna drop the motor into a newer 1(car B). car B has a stick and the motor from car A has an auto trany on it, i pulled the motor and then pulled the trany off it. do i need to swap the fly wheel???? do i need to swap anything else??? to drop this motor into car B

car A= white Automatic 90 pro LX....i let my brother drive it and he wrecked it (DOHC)

Car B= Red w/ tinted windows :D 91 Pro DX Stick shift (SOHC)

lol, ok so lemme see hear, you wanna put the dohc into the sohc protege. You can start by using the search funtion. Since ive got a 15 minutes break and Ive got no smokes i guess ill see what i can list here for you though:

The dohc motor
the dohc ECU
(im pretty sure) the dohc wiring harness, but not %100, im sure the search function will get you an answer
an upgraded clutch-the SOHC clutch cant hold the power well
exhaust work if the cars are different years(slightly different setup in newer 1st gen protege i believe)

and alot of stuff im forgetting

btw-if the dohc comes from an auto it wont have a flywheel so you will need to put the sohc flywheel on, im not sure but i think it may be lighter than a dohc flywheel.

There is a gear on the AUTO motor that you will have to remove and you replace it with the new flywheel from the MANUAL motor...other than that if you are going from a SOHC to a DOHC, you will need the wiring harness(unless you are really good at wiring diagrams and splicing) and the DOHC's ECU...honestly the best way to do it would be like this......take the engine and tranny out of the wrecked car as a unit...transplant the old flywheel and tranny onto the new engine and install it in the good car...then run the wiring harness and replace the ECU....should be good to go after that!!!

what will happen if i dont swap the ecu and the wiring harnis?

the ecu with the dohc is set up to run an auto trany not a stick.

let me reask my questions......

1) will my car run if i dont take the ecu, and use the 1 thats in there? if so will it screw up anything?

2) if i HAVE to swap ecu's will it work, since the tranys are differnt? going from auto to stick and the ecu was on the auto dohc?????

the prob isnt the new tranny..its the fact that you are swappping a DOHC engine into a car equipped with a SOHC...its a diff engine, not just a different head...you will need the ECU and harness from the DOHC car to run that engine properly...the tranny shouldnt matter as long as it bolts up
