transmition
Hi
My transmition is automatic, I found my self changing gears from "S" to drive "D" all the time, just like if I have a mechanical transmition, I use it to slow down the car from "D" to "S" so I don't have to apply the brakes to hard, I start on the lights with "S" and then I get into "D" when I feel the motor need it, and I feel the car has more power this way that if I let the transmition to shift gears on its own if I only use "D". So here comes the questions: :) It is bad for the transmition or the car to be changing gears all the time? Can my transmition breaks if I slow down the car, going to lower gear so I don't have to apply the brakes to hard when I'm going 120 and a smart guy braked in front of me? thanks Alex |

shifting in automatic car is bad..
you have a overdrive button. that could possibly be a lot more safer than shifting urself. the button toggles between 4th and third. search around here or online, plenty of info it. |

ITS BOOOORING. of course, im young and i like driving, maybe for a 60 year old man transmition is ok. you cant brake with it, you are forcing the engine by pushing her into high rpms for braking, one day you will do it at high speed and blow your engine or something! stop harassing her!!! |
TRANSMISSION!! stop beating up ur automatic. im sure downshifting it at highspeed can't be good ur brakes are cheap enough and can be done very easy .. use them or start saving for a 1000 dollar Transmission Job ...Jon

You can also break ur exhaust doin that... my friend did it in his 323, he was doin bout 85, put it into second, rpms went up and exhaust blew... i suggest u save money now, ur tranny could be bad already...
When u have over drive on, is that when it sez HOLD, or when it doesnt say HOLD?? My car seems to stay in hi rpm's when im doin over 40 with the HOLD light on... |

I work in a transmission shop and the best advice that i could give you his to leave it in drive with the overdrive off when your'e below 80 KPH and but in in overdrive when your'e above 80. The transmission on the first gen his a ford transmission and it's 1300$ canadian dollars for a rebuild so be carefull with it.

U mean the Ford egt has a mazda transmission and motor...Jon and they go for 200-250 in a junkyard ..Jon

Anyone know if the torque converter can lock up when the tranny is still in 3rd? |
The overdrive his not just the final gear it affect the way the transmission change in all gear. An automatic transmission has clutch in it and the lower the speed change the more stress there his to the clutch set, the more heat it create and the earlier your'e going to do the transmission. The real ennemi of an automatic his heat. There's a balance to do between how much fuel it's costing you and the price of a rebuild transmission.
Itzkcatz the transmission on the mazda pro 1 gen was designed by ford enginer. The transmission of a mazda pro, the transmission of a escort gt are the same and the escort lx has the same transmission EXCEPT THAT THE BELLHOUSING GOES WITH THE 1.9L MOTOR you can not swap an lx transmission for a gt |
The would explain why the only pos part of are cars is the Transmission *sigh* so are there any ford transmissions that will bolt to the bp that can handle power better and get us past this 300 hp mark? ..Jon
|
No other ford transmission will but up and even then it would not be good for those power. The trouble with front wheel drive his the location of the differentiel in the transmission. Every car compagnie has that problem in high horsepower front wheel drive car. There's suppose to be a compagnie in Australia that come up with a system to reinforce the diff housing but i don't have all the info on that.

uhhh... last time I checked the FWD auto tranny is a F series, not G
