transmission suggestions
 

This post is just so I can gain so information on mazda transmissions, which from what ive heared arent the best on the block. I own a Mx3 and have been a member of the www.mx-3.com board since its begginings so some of ya might recognize my name like jesse(pseudo, mr.almostknowseveryhting) etc. Im currently looking to swap to the BPD, and eventually ( next summer ) have the cash for a gtr manifold, standalone, and turbo. Ive just been thinking lately about the transmission. What would be the best route to go with the tranny? just get a stock one built up or are there other options? When the BP stays NA ill be running my stock mx-3 tranny with a upgraded act clutch, and hopefully it will hold up for a while. Just got to thinking on what optiosn were out there, since I havent put any time at all into reasearching transmissions, just how engines, but I gotta get it to the ground consistantly i figured :). Some have said to grab the BPD tranny as well, but is it proven ot hold a littel bit more or no? thanks guys

are you sure that a 1.8 bp will work with the mx-3 tranny? I dont think the kl and bp will interchange correctly. sorry.:(

im not running a kl, the rs model comes with the b6 SOHC monster 88hp motor , also found in earlier proteges...The BP is a direct bolt in and so is the tranny. Almost everyhting from a protege or a zx2 or old escort gt etc.. is interchangable with the mx3, thats why I have zx2 struts on mine ;)

ya.. the tranny will swap.. but you have a very weak tranny. Your best bet is a tranny from a pro LX, or EGT.. I think they are good for something like 300 ft/lbs..

just to cue you in on something, not that i have any solutions, but if you ever get a look at your transmission's gears, they're nearly only 2/3rd's of the size of a normal transmission of a comparable car and motor. mazda transmissions are all shit, i have an lx, and it's not it's all you make it out to be.

so what are my other options then? besides the lx tranny and the POS i currently have? speding isane amounts of cash?

For the bp n/a stick with the 1.6 transmission it will hold even the oem clutch can hold to if your not alway making start. Have done the swap in one of my friend precidia rs with my old bp engine i had in my pro and it make a really good addition has they really lack power in the 4 cyl version he can now pass precidia gs with the stock v6. He had trouble just the first 2 weeks after the swap the time the new oem clutch brake in. If you plan on going with a lx tranny don't spend any money on an act clutch your going to pay for nothing the two clutch are different and if act his in the same price range has my centerforce dual friction it's a lot of money just to change it later

yeha, just not sure if I want to get the lx tranny till i blow mine...dont have all that cash floating around, as the tranny goes for around 250$ if im not mistaken...

i just diid the swap in my mx-3 a week ago (j-spec bp with stock tranny and clutch) and my clutch is NOT holding, get a good clutch.
i havn't even raced the car yet or done a burn out, it just slips after i shift at high rpm, and the clutch only had 10 000 kms on it

i'm swaping in a pro lx tranny soon with a act clutch and findanza flywheel, i have the clutch and flywheel but couldn;t find a good tranny in time, cause i needed the car out of the shop

so if u wanna save money use your stock tranny with a good clutch(don't know how long the tranny wil last) or get a pro lx tranny and a good clutch

Hello I'm new here.

I'm curious as to which tranny is the Pro LX

Is it the G25M-R or is is the F25M-R

Cause I was thinking of looking for something I coudl swap into my zx2 that has a decent differential in it and some good syncs. The G5M and G15M-R trannies or only good if not shifted hard even then you need a Quafie to keep keep from fracturing a spider gear.

I'm sure the bellhousing might be the same but what I'm looking for are things like syncros differentials, shift forks. That sort of thing.

I got a zx2 and over on the zx2 side we have guys literally blowing apart syncros and its not from shifting too fast its from revving too high. They tend to fly apart at around 7600rpms. Some of our guys most noticeably one are revving out to 8500 rpms.


I'm just curious as to if the G25 had a higher power handling capability or syncros that were not made of brass. Cause the G5 can only hold about 200 beyond that forget it. I'm not sure but I heard a rumor that the G25 could hold 400. I'm just looking to confirm it.

Just to let you know, there's a guy here that has a 323 1.6l turbo before 1990. He has 350whp and his still using the 1.6l transmission so i don't really think that the transmission his so weak it's just that you must use your head when shifting. For the one that wants to know more about him go on montreal racing forum his name his Adam nickname turbo323.
