Rotary Powered Protege?
 

Has anyone ever considered doing this? I mean you always see race teams converting fwd cars to rwd already. I think this would be a cool idea. Of course it would prolly take more than 10,000 dollars to get it right. but i was just wondering.

I think I recall hearing about a FWD B13 powered Protege.

I was planning to put a rotor in my 00 protege but when i went down to to Mazdaspeed in australia the main roads (cops) they said they couldn't modify it, they didn't say why they just never heard of it.. they thought i was crazy putting a big engine in this poxy 4 banger!!!!

Why would you need a transaxle? It'd be a RWD.

If u were to do this your best bet would be to get a AWD protege. its suppose to have room for the driveshaft and such. its not worth it

good find "rkives" . especially the second car if he was able to eventually bolt up the 13b to a fwd then it could prolly be fabricated to the awd very similarly. i dont know about the times though 12. sec is still a little slower than what i would think a triple rotor could push. maybe its all lost in the drivetrain. we know its not in the weight of the car anyways.

so you've accomplished the question, can it be done? yes. is it reasonable for Jimmy highschool drop out to make this kind of car? NO! tearing a hole and custom plating the center of your protege isn't the 'best' idea, and would actually take some engineering. i wouldn't doubt that somebody on here will make a rear wheel drive pro, a rotary pro, a gtr rear wheel drive pro...etc...etc...etc. but the simple fact is 85% of us don't have access to all the resources to create such machines (being enough know how, the tools, the garage, the intuition, the love, and the determination, or money). i think each of us has a certain part of this in us (at least those that give a shit), it's just a matter of collaboration. it would take a collaborative effort that can't be achieved solely on the internet. who knows, maybe we'll live to see the day.
