resistor in air intake temp sensor
 

hey

I was on ebay the other day and I saw the resistor in the intake temp sensor. It is suppose to advance the timing but i was wondering if anyone has tried this yet. and if you have what reprocussions come with it. I thought it was pretty sketchy seeing how you can't plug it back into the intake tube and therefore the computer wouldn't know the correct temp of the car, or the air going into the car. from what i heard yu are suppose to gain a descent amount of hp from this. it says 20 which is bs but i thought even if it only added like 5 I would be considerably happy seeing how it would only cost me like 3 bucks. sorry for the book but if you have any answers or suggestions they're appreciated. and I already ordered the piece so when it gets here I can tell you how it goes.

hey i have one on my car and it definitely feels like it has more power but i doubt it has 5 hp

also you can plug the iat back in with the resistor u just have to move it so it all fits in there.

total crap!!!!!!!!

go get yourself the same resistor at Radio Shack for like $0.20 if you really need to.

or for free, lossen the distributor and advance the timing there.

can you tell me where you put your resistor, the IAT is built into the VAF..........

in the iat connector harness

OK, well, like i said the IAT is inside the VAF and there is no seperate connector for it, there is only one main connector going to the VAF with (i'm guessing) 8 to 10 wires, and there is no way a resistor can fit inline and still be able to plug in.

ok, before we start butting heads here, i was refering to OUR car, it is a VAF design, and all those you linked use a MAF design, with a seperate IAT sensor and connector. Not the same thing at all.

I know the deal, i have seen those sites, it's on our car that i have a hard time understanding how you connected it.

in the harness the resistor goes in the farthest ends, tape the rest sticking out with tape(electrical) then i bent it donwards where there is space inside the connection on the vaf and push connector in til it clicks close

I know that all you have to do is buy the resistor but i didnt know what colors or actual resistance to buy. and it came in finally but I really can't put it into the air temp sensor unit. due to the fact that it isn't the same set up from what i can tell the directions say. there are too many holes. but it says that you can also put it into the coolant temp sensor unit. do you know if this is an ok place to put it and also if the comp isnt getting the correct reading of the temp in the engine can it hurt the engine.

each end of the resistor goes in each hole on the farthest sides in the iat harness.

dont put it in colant temp harness though
