1. Two different types of air flow sensors. MAF - Mass Air Flow is what you'll find on the 2nd and 3rd gen Proteges. It's a small device with an electrode that measures the airflow as it rushes past the electrode.

VAF - Vane Air Flow (flapper style) is a larger device that has a physical door that opens and closes to allow air in and control the amount of air coming in.

2. The RX7 VAF has more flow above 6000rpm, almost a 5hp boost. Although otherwise identical to the stock VAF. It may show more flow below 6000rpm, but no real tests or proof of that has been done, that i know of.

any ideas why its bigger or why the cars runign like shit? . .
i got no clue why they are bigger.. mayeb the rx-7 needs more air?:dunno:

but as far as it runing liek shit.. it could be because you havent tuned it correctly.. i know theres a website that one of the members on pclub made that shows you how to correctly do it.. but i forget the url for it.. mayeb sombody else knows it? ...

also what did you pay for yours?

as for it bein bigger... lookin at how much the exhaust from a 7 can flow (HUGE turbos), i imagine it does suck quite a bit more air than our 4-bangers... and yeah, found out i had to tune it, but havent done it yet, i just threw my cone adapter on my stock vaf, and did it that way... apparently the only gains u get from the rx7 vaf is an extra 5 hp above 6k... nice, but not much really in the scheme of things... might decide to sell it, not sure yet. as of where i got it, it was included in the price of my car, along wit a ton of other shit... even got a turbo wit it, but it needs a new compressor wheel, and then id have to have it sent out to be put back together... soon, i hope.. lol
