"RAM-AIR" = Less MPG?

The underbumper air channel tha I built seems to be taking a toll on my gas mileage. Why is that?

On the other hand, it's made my engine sound a little meaner, but I'd rather whimpy it up and get the MPG I had before back than have a meaner engine.

At first I was gunning it, trying to feel for performance differences. Then I started noticing the loss in MPG, so I stopped. I dedicated a whole half-tank to normal driving so I could test for MPG loss. Lets just say I wasn't satisfied with the results.

When I first noticed the drop, I noticed the gas dropped most on the highway when going 60-80mpg and downshifting into 3rd. The gas drops as if I had a V6 now if you do it a lot.
