Problem Continues

Ok here we go again...first got the oil pan gasket replaced, then the valve cover gasket....now...the engine is still leaking oil pretty good... i didnt notice it hard started again untill i looked under my car when it was parked on some white concrete i looked under the car to see the right bottom side of my car soaked from somewhere towards the middle all the way down to the oil pan and drive shaft.. the whole right shaft is SOAKED in oil soo is the right "A" frame. does anyone have any idea what this could be i mean weve checked everything that could possibly leak oil and cant find the leak so if any body has any ideas on what it would be i would greatly appriciate it..

ghettopro November-7th-2004 01:37 PM

Also.. The car is still full of oil checked the Dip stick and it was full and the "A" frame is soaked and other parts.. I was wondering if it was just burning off or still just dripping from the last time it leaked?

Transmission Fluid

I was just now thinking about this again, and i alsso thought maybe it was transmission fluid since i cant find anything that would be engine related b/c most of it is down tiwards the bottom and on the driveshafts, so it struck me to be maybe transmission fluid?

ghettopro November-7th-2004 02:34 PM

Well talked to my bro and told him about it and weve put aside the tranny question b/c its not been acting funny but we think its blowing oil and not burning b/c first when it was losing oil it had been pretty low and think that maybe the piston rings were fried when it got low the last time b/c my muffler has a damp black ring on the inside of it..

93SuperScort November-8th-2004 09:34 AM

try and put a piece of cardboard under the car, so then u can see if its tranny fluid or not. Nevermind, u guys use gear oil in ur trannies. Leaks like that are kinda hard to diagnose, it could be ur axles leaking, or your front crank seal?

Roddimus Prime November-8th-2004 09:45 AM

this is why I swear by a clean engine bay. Have your engine steam cleaned by a professional and everyday check it out to see where the leaks START forming. sounds like a crank seal like superscort said...I'm not real familiar with anything but 3rd gens though.

ghettopro November-8th-2004 03:21 PM

axles can leak?

tonkabui November-8th-2004 04:36 PM

maybe your oil filter isn't on all the way?

Roddimus Prime November-8th-2004 04:42 PM

that would BLOW oil all over the place. A double gasketed filter would look like it exploded once he started it up.

tonkabui November-8th-2004 05:51 PM

maybe it's the oil pressure sender? that might be loose half a turn or something?

Roddimus Prime November-8th-2004 06:28 PM

that could also do it!

ghettopro November-8th-2004 07:32 PM

The oil filter was replaced not to long ago , i think it might be taht b.c theres this blue thing and i have no idea what it is but its at the back where all of the oil was leaking at it may be it.

ghettopro November-8th-2004 07:34 PM

THANKS for the replies!

ghettopro November-8th-2004 07:35 PM

Why is it that parents think they know everything, i went down their and told them what you said and my stepdad (Who is a cop btw) is like Its not your oil filter.... ....what the hell is he going to know about cars hes a cop not a mechanic....

ghettopro November-8th-2004 10:07 PM

Do the 1st gens have aluminum blocks b/c ive heard that if they get overheated and then shut off to quickly they can warp..

WTF November-8th-2004 10:52 PM

hmmmm, back to step 1.

ALways always when you are lost, what is the first thing everybody says, Go back to the beginning and from there start all over again.

This is simpler than you think. First, cool dwon and let go of the emotions, Be One with the Engine...
:mach:
Well, anyway::: Just get underneath the damn car, wipe everything off, everything, spankin clean.

Check the dipstick, put more oil if needed, then turn the car on and watch cautiously and I mean with a damn flashlight underneath the car and once in a while everywhere on the engine bay.

The oil pan has a main gasket which in my BP05 I do not use, :mach: instead I use gasket sealant and install fresh seals at both ends.

There is something called Chiltons or Haynes Automotive manual for your specific year and model. So, before you go crazy it does not hurt to get a little hint from those books which are greatly useful. :mach:
:mach:
Take pictures of the damn engine when the leaking starts and from there we have something to work on. It just kills me that you are asking all kinds of questions desperately like if this forum would do magic and :mach: :mach: WALA problem solved.

:mach:
Get a few pics of the engine bay and how the oil looks and create a website, whatever. Read into the books and learn all the gaskets involved on a BP05 or whichever block you've got. Put it this way, whenever you are gonna take a shit take the book with you with a pack of cigarrettes and browse thru it.

Found The Problem!

Well took it out to my dads, got the timing belt covers and pulleys off got down to the crankshaft area, we look and there sits the crankshaft seal...and what do we see?, a small trail of oil that was leaking out of it....soo we got to replace the crankshaft seal and we went to autozone, advancedauto(they gave us a camshaft seal :squint: ), went to a couple of otehr places NOBODY HAS THEM!, but my dad works as a mechanic in a couple of towns over in chattanooga and hes gonna go to a large part store up there were we got the piston rings and head gasket when we first got the car and replaced the back last winter, soo im carless for a few days, oh well atleast my car is getting fixed..i should have taken my car to him in the first place...

ghettopro November-15th-2004 06:39 PM

YAY, I got my car back after having the front crank seal put on and this old seal was really hard causing it to leak oil, got that replaced and now the protege is back in the yard..!

WTF November-15th-2004 10:02 PM

Fixed...

I am glad the oil leak has stopped. :spank:
