oil and sand in my spark plug wells

When I picked up my protoge, I noticed alot of Sand in the engine compartment. The previos owners lived in the country.

Now, I also have oil leak from cam seal ( I think ), which is okay b/c i'm planing to replace it. what has happened is that sand has mixed in with the oil pool in the spark plug wells.

I want to change the spark plugs and I need to clean all that sand/oil mixture out of the well before I try to remove the spark plugs.

My buddy told me to use compressed air to get it out, but i'm not sure if that will work.

You could also try to remove the shit from the hole with a screwdriver, that's what I did.... I had only oil in there no sand but... maybe that will help... it's just my experience...

Cya !

lol, i have the same problem,
i was going to take my spark plugs out today to set the gap (wasn't properly set when i replaced them a few weeks ago). now when i replaced them few weeks ago, i had sand and other crap inside the spark plug wells with some oil which i cleaned out really well. but when i pulled the wire off the spark plug today, there was maybe a 1cm of oil inside!!!!!! :(

gotta get my valve cover gasket ASP, didn't think it was that bad
