A bpt for 1000?? They are few and far between for the most part. You can find them on Ebay from time to time. If its that cheap you're probably not getting the wiring harness or ECU.
Your best bet would be finding an entire front clip. They're fairly easy to find if you spend some time looking. If you got that then it would almost be plug and play. YOu would still need to find a few parts however.
IE. Protege LX (U.S.) GT. (CAN) manual tranny, flywheel, clutch, axles.
Mounts, and slave cylinder. Unless ofcourse you're automatic then you need the shift linkage etc..........
Intercooler piping, I forget if they come with top mount or side mounts but its not the best set up and its not too difficult to add a FMIC.

The Wiring harness needs to be extended a little bit, but if you're reasonably competent with a soldering gun you should be fine.
Thats about all I can think of at the moment.

im new at this whole ricer thing
...Assuming this is a "ricer" thing is slightly offensive.... I own a 99 Z28 and work on LS1's and LT1's on a weekly basis, and my import is turbo charged with no non-performance mods, which hardly make me a ricer.

Back on subject -- I got my BPT for $1000 w/o harness or tranny. There is a group by for them on ClubProtege.com for $875, if it hasn't ended yet.

the wiring harness depends on the ECU you'll be using. I'm running a Haltech E6k so I didn't need the BP26 harness. I cut everything I needed off of the BP05 harness and ran the Haltech Flying leads to them.

you don't need LX axles unless you can get them fine. the DX will work -- worst case scenario you break one and have to replace it anyways. Just wait till it breaks to replace them. Most people prefer a broken axle to a broken tranny anyway.

Mine came with the flywheel, yours might too. If so, just resurface it and get a stronger clutch. Make sure you have the LX (DOHC) Tranny, otherwise start saving up to replace a broken tranny like I am.

You will need:

BP-T (BP26)
Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump (Miata or Rx-7 will work)
Ignition Management Unit
Fuel Management Unite
Rising Rate Fule Pressure Regulator
Guagues (Boost, A/F ratio at minimum)
Upgraded Clutch
DOHC Tranny (From a 90-94 Protege LX)

You may want:
Anti-Surge Valve (Recirculating recommended)
Boost Controller

I have:
Turbo XS Single Stage Boost Controller (switch for Dual here soon)
Haltech E6K Stand-alone fuel & ignition managment unit
HKS Type-H RLF Blow off Valve
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
FlyinMiata Rising Rate Fuel Pressure Regulator
MSD 6a ignition controller
MSD Blaster SS Ignition Coil

Plan on speding $3000 atleast on the project. I've got $2500 ito the ECU and Engine alone...I dont' even want to add it all up.

That just takes care of the engine. The Intake and Exhaust piping has millions of options, you'll just have to figure out how you want to do it.

where i grew up anything with less then 8 cylinders is a "ricer" is what i was getting at, i own a supercharged 88 mustang and its plenty fun but the mpg was raping me so i decided to get a protege. is there a certin code on the tranny i need to look for or just any 5 spd out of a 90-94 lx protege? would i be better of getting the bp engine and turboing it after a good rebuild or get the bp-t and work with is? anything else i shoudl know would be help full...thanx

go bp-t IMO.

Loginology, how are you controlling ignition timing with the Haltech? Are you using a Miata CAS? Did you have any issues installing the stand-alone? I'm going to use the E6X, so maybe you have some advice.....is an aftermarket ignition required to take full advantage of the Haltech, or did you just upgrade because you're running boost?

The BPT is a good start, but if want some serious horsepower, then get a standard BP and add boost. The head flows better on the non-BPT engine....

The stock ignition will work, I've had mine running on it. I just decided I wanted to upgrade the ignition because of boost, since that's the only thing I haven't touched. I also fried my coil, so I decided to go ahead with the upgrade :). Some say the engine will feel smoother, but I don't know. The 6a just does a tripple spark, so it alone wouldn't really do much. The Blaster coil is supposed to get better voltage to the spark plugs. We'll see....

I'm actually in the garage hooking up the new ignition right now (mmmmm, what would I do without wireless internet) . I've talked to braden about this quite a bit, and the haltech and MSD mate up well. I'll be able to let you know any "tricks" or things to watch for here shortly.

But is your Haltech up and running? I wanted to know if you had any problems with installation, and what you did for a Cam Angle Sensor?

proto 420 September-29th-2004 09:04 PM

There is a gtx complete half cut on ebay right now. Its going for 2,000 buy it now. That would have most of the stuff you would need. Check in ebay motors under gtx front clip. It even has the jdm front lights. and body panels
