Wow, looks great, where did you get the piping from? can you notice any diffs in mileage or perfomance?

slayer4u February-15th-2005 10:30 AM

much beter performance. I'll have to see about milage. The tubing is electrical conduit pipe. works great for keeping the air cool.

This is the pipe I started with. I only used one though.

hughes412 February-15th-2005 11:28 AM

You made that? If you did it looks great. Good job.

ghettopro February-15th-2005 07:40 PM

About how much does the pipe cost?

slayer4u February-16th-2005 08:36 PM

yes I made it. the pipe cost $2.95ea. at home depot.

black_1stgen_protegelx March-12th-2005 06:58 PM

Yours looks good. I like the blue. Here is my new custom intake with resonator and RX7 VAF.

where are u guys getting those air detector things from? mines so huge and i wanna hook up a ram air setup but its too bulky, can anyone help me out? i just had to take back all the parts i got from home depot because the car simply wont start once its disconnected from that air flow meter.

wait...i just double checked and looked at those pics closer......that IS the original air flow meters u guys just took off that air filter housing and crap......now ive got a project to do...heh, thanks for indirectly solving my problem

91ProtegeDX March-14th-2005 05:16 PM

Hey can someone help me out here....i just went to home depot today to try to copy ur designs......but they didnt even have a 3"(diameter) 45 or 90 degree flex pipe.....and the BIGGEST conduit they had there was 2 inches.........any thoughts on what else i can use that i can find at home depot?

instead of conduit im just gonna use pvc since they do have that in 3 inch diameter..but i still need all the rubber connects and such....

black_1stgen_protegelx March-15th-2005 10:32 AM

Check out this link. You will get many of the parts you need (polished tubing, clamps, couplings, air filter, etc.) and you can cut or modify them how ever you want. I just used a hack saw to cut off the pipe that I didn't need. If you can't find what you need at Home Depot, this is a good alternative. You will still need an adapter for the VAF. The kit will not have it. I also incorperated the resonator, RX7 VAF, and a little better air filter on mine.
ebay intake

91ProtegeDX March-15th-2005 03:32 PM

Thanks, I think im gonna order this tonight. I could have put all this together just home depot didnt have anything i was looking for. Im going out right now to look for something i can cut apart/turn into an adapter. I know what they look like so it shouldnt be a big problem.

juddz March-15th-2005 04:30 PM

Nice workmanship, slayer4u. Does it sound nice, when you run it wide open?

mthegodfather March-15th-2005 06:23 PM

Very nice lookin craftmanship. If anyone has ordered an EBAY CAI for a 1999 1.6 can you post which one you order or from who you ordered it so I can make sure I get the proper one.

mthegodfather March-16th-2005 10:56 AM

Mine is 2.5". That's as big as you need. You won't get more flow w/ 3". I don't understand why they don't have it. They had 1-3" at my local Home depot.

nice job! :bt: Is that a BPT I see? Or just a BP?

black_1stgen_protegelx March-29th-2005 12:51 PM

Just a BP for now. I can't decide if I am going to do a monster NA or go turbo.

Here's my intake. RX7 AFM, stock tubing...125whp

I'm not going to get an intake til I get my stand alone engine management so I can use a MAP sensor.

rck2drums March-29th-2005 02:35 PM

Can't you take off the resonator?

How about using a stainless steel resevoir for your coolant, that's what I'm planning on using.

BTW from where do you get your cold air, because your filter is in a hole that's completely closed at the bottom (at least it is at my car)

I've been meaning to order an aluminum one from jegs. Haven't got around to it yet.

I get the cold air from a hole I cut in the bottom. I just put som foamboard over the top of that pocket to seal out hot air. It looks like a hack job but it works.

Not realy. I noticed increased performance w/o it. I just pluged the throttle bypass tube into a fitting at the back of the tube.

Do you have a picture of the hole?? I'm planning on doing a similar thing and always looking for inspiration

slayer4u April-27th-2005 12:38 PM

I just took off the bumper and cut a round hole in the side of thaat little pocket.

Freekenstein April-27th-2005 03:03 PM

I've installed a stainless steel pipe between the AFM and the injection module. It sounds better and picks up better at low revs

I'll make a pic one of the coming days an post it here

slayer4u April-28th-2005 05:01 PM

Are you the guy on the 323 forum w/ the grey 323?

I still have to make the hole behind the bumper for better cold-air, but it sure looks good already :)

protegechris May-3rd-2005 09:27 AM

They sell those rubber seals at home depot? What're they called?

Looks really good :)

I don't have to worry about that here in washington.

I don't know how HD would call them, but I would say a socket or something. Mind you all three of them are different sizes.
