muffler installation help
 

hey everyone. i recently bought a muffler that looks just like this:

It is a universal muffler and i need to know how to go about installing it. I need to know where to get some hangers to put on it, I heard there is a kind if band hanger that straps around the muffler. And I also need to know how to make my stock pipes fit onto the muffler which is like 2.25 inches. Any help would be much appreciated.

I would guess that you will have to weld the new muffler on. In that case, if you do not have the equipment, take it to a shop. They shouldn't charge you more than $50 for install.

As for the hangers, I had the shop use my original ones when I was puting on my muffler. They just welded them to the side (towards the very back) of the actual muffler. Obviously, it is not visible:D

When i got my muffler i went ahead and went new pipe from the cat conv. and it only cost me $75 for everything (except muffler). But i asked how much to just install the muffler and they told me 25.

Yeah dude you're better off just having the shop do new piping. Unless your car has had a recent exhaust job, you've probably got leaks. New exhaust + new muffler will sound a lot better. Otherwise you'll have that annoying "puffffit" sound :barf:

thanks for the input guys. i have another question. i have heard about this pacemark exhaust for the protege and was wondering if it would be a good investment for my car. it isn't that expensive, but i am wondering if any of you guys know how it performs and how it sounds. thanks a lot.

I have never personally heard it, but I was wondering the same thing a while back and someone said it sounds like shit. Again, that's just hear-say though.

i have also heard mixed reviews about it. some people say it sounds like crap and others like it. i am just wondering what people's opinions are on this particular exhaust because it is pretty cheap and is a direct bolt on, so would be an easy afternoon project.

Well it's been R&D'd so it's goign to be a little better than some custom setups, but it's 2.5" instead of 2.25", and with N/A that's a little big so you might actually lose performance. If you get it, let me know because I may get that instead of doing 2.5" mandrel custom exhaust when the BPT is installed.

Pacemark ??? Did you mean Pacesetter ??? If yes, then don't buy it because I've heard that it rusts really quickly. Well, if you live in a state where it's summer all year long then maybe it'll be a good investment:D

I didn't even realize you said pacemark. Maybe I Should stop reading so fast ;)

i didn't even realize that i wrote pacemark either. i meant pacesetter. my tires are pacemark so maybe i kind of mixed them up when i posted my question.

by the way, does anyone have a pic of their car with the pacesetter installed?

Depends on if you have hangers on the muffler already or not. i had them welded on my muffler when i bought it then took it to a shop and they cut off my stock muffler and used the axle back piping to install the muffler.

Cost me $40 for them to put it on. Not bad

If you dont have hangars, Id say like $60 to weld on the hangars and install it. Shouldnt be any more than that
