Mandrel bent??
 

I just bought an APC muffler-duel tip to run on my pro. Is this a good brand?? t looks pretty nice, and they said they've never had a complaint. But my main question is, what exactly is a mandrel bent exhaust??? The guy at the muffler shop won't run an exhaust w/o a converter, so he is just running it from my converter-on. He said I can do whatever after that, but is it possib;e to still whack off the converter when I get my header?? Can I run an exhaust from the header to where he left it at the Catilatic converter? How hard would this be. Thanks for any inpute guys.

"mandrel bent" is a way to bend tubing in which the bends are smooth, as opposed to "crush bent" in which the bends are not as smooth, creating more friction. basically mandrel bent is better. so you wanna pay the extra for that.

if he won't remove your cat, either find a muffler shop that will, or, you can just do it from the cat back for now and later when you put in your headers, you can always have someone run a section of tubing in place of your cat.

Also a mandrel bent: is when the pipe in the bends still the same size as the straight pipe, normally the machine at the muffler shop cruch the bends and reduce the pipe size in that bend and that cruch reduce air flow thats why the mandrel bend is better. If your car is a 90-94 Pro you can make your own exhaust you just need 2, 90 deg and 2, 45 deg and about 6 feet of tubbing aprx no sure no remember how much did I use to make mine.

ok to sum all of this up in one post:

mendral bent: is keeping th pipe diameter throughout the bend,

Crush bent: it is a "smooth bend but the piping diameter is not maintained

Crimp bent" when there are ribs on the inside of the bend

mendral bend is the optimal bend because of it's lake of streamline frictions. as you g down the list the flow friction and velocitys are reduced in efficenies.

I do have a SOHC, why do you ask????

yea, there is. and yea, i am running a header. and yea, I will show you pics of when I get it on. I don't know why you guys don't believe me when I say this, but I am running a header on my 1.8 L SOHC 1990 pro. Its called "minor customization" and it does exhist, ya know?
