KL-ZE conversion?
 

Has anyone had this done? I found a place that will do the whole swap for $4300cnd. ( ~~$2700US ) for parts and labor. It seems to me like a good price for everything, especially for a 200HP V6. What do you guys think?

What would be an estimate for a BPT swap... everything including labor? (I don't trust myself with an engine swap).

the BPT swap will be a bit cheaper....but more tuning involved...the V6 is practically a 14 sec drop in.

I'm kinda leaning towards the v6 approach to tell you the truth. Reliability is a big part of it. Even though it will be a lot harder to coax power out of a n/a engine as opposed to turbo/supercharged, ~200HP is A LOT to be putting in such a small car in the first place.

I think I'm going to contact that place to make sure their currency is in CND, not US! $4300 would be a bit much for everything! Thanks for replying.

i felt i should post this here rather than create yet another thread.....it's not really directed towards you Dan, but it's still may be an option for you, as they do ship. But i think you can find a better price.

found this link on a yahoo list...Street Imports has the KLZE for $1299 (ya a bit much...BUT they list 3 tranny types....auto, 5sp and 5sp w/LSD!!!!!! this is $900 more, but hell it's an LSD!!!!!! can't get one for less than $1200 from Quaife, nice to get both tranny and LSD for 9 bills.....

Oh, just to re-iterate...the V6 swap consists of more than just an engine...

tranny, ECU, front suspension, front brakes and a few other goodies...i posted a complete list in another thread....

As for it being a 14 sec drop-in, I guess that depends. I know there's a guy on the net with a black Pro that does a fastest of 14.17, but there's one around here in Montreal who's best time was 15.7something... Driver/install/engine condition related I'm sure, but 15.7 is crap for a 200hp Protege!

This is to much money, A-spec in toronto can do that job for 4000$ including the suspension and brakes from the MX-6

Trac Racing in Monteal can do the swap for around 3200$ but they don't include the suspension and brakes.

Darryl, thanks for the info, that's a freaking deal! The engine+tranny(lsd) is only a little bit more expensive than corksport is asking for the engine and ecu alone! LSD would definately help put all that power to the ground, especially in such a light car.

White1stGen - That price of $4300 includes the mx-6 suspension/brakes, etc.

Bizob - with a bit of practice and a LSD, it IS a 14sec drop-in for me! A-SPEC has a 323 of the same year, etc. and with the KL-03 (170 hp) it ran a best of 13.9 on street tires... I think it probably had exhaust work, too... But it would be more of a task to run that with a pro... I don't know how much more they weigh.

Thanks for all the info, guys... So what I'm looking at so far is Engine, ECU, tranny, brakes, suspension... What else would I need? Plus, how hard would this be to do by myself... I haven't done anything like this before. Would it be worth it just to take it somewhere and get it done? Gotta learn somewhere, though! hehehe...

I'm just assuming, but I would be suprised if a V6 fits on the same mounting brackets as the BP...

If you're REALLY good at welding, you might be able to do it... Otherwise, try and find out if there's a company that makes adaptors or something...

If you really want to do it yourself, make sure you find out where everything goes and mark EVERYTHING you touch so you know what it is and where it goes. Still a V6 swap would be an impressive backyard mechanic feat!

i am 99.9% sure the V6 is a straight drop in, motor mounts line up and everything. It's tight and it fits snug.

If you have a few friends and atleast one has some prior knowledge of things, then i'd say, sure, it's doable by yourself. MIght take a few days, but definetly do-able. Maybe invest in a Haynes manual for the MX6 or MX3 (whichever you get the other parts from) but it's basically the same stuff, as it bolts right up anyway....

Would also be a good time to swap in a new sway bar and lower tie bar.

Really?! Damn that's cool. Why did'nt Mazda ever make it? A Pro with a V6 stock would be nuts... THey coulda made a sport luxury model with leather and stuff.... Plus that would have made the V6 swap street legal...

I heard that the 2.5l fits almost bolt on but that the v6 from the mx-3 is alot of work to swap and since it'a not a really good engine I wouldn't do it.
