input shaft seal
 

Anyone ever replaced there input shaft seal on there trany? come to find out mine is leaking. i thought it was the rear main seal. but after pulling the trany this past weekend. i found out different. but this is something i dont plan to take on. since you have to take the trany apart. Hopefully i will have it back on the road in a week or so. :(

not totally sure here...

but are you sure you have to take the tranny apart to push out the seals? as when removed you can see right through the tranny...although you may have to, to install them...

i should have taken a pic of it. but from what my friend that is a mechanic and what i seen there is no way with out spliting the case. i wish there was. :(

well, they might know better than i...hope it don't cost you an arm and a leg.

That leak you see there is from my input shaft. :(

Yep, looks just like my car right about now :)
I didn't really see *any* leaking from the rear main seal either; but the bellhousing was covered in grease/oil from (i assume) the input shaft seal as well....i'm almost positive you can change that seal *without* taking the tranny apart....if i had my shop manual i could tell you for sure, but its at the shop with the car! :(

could you post some pics of your clutch/flywheel assembly?...maybe a side shot and an angle shot?

also was your clutch disc missing any springs?

Yeah it was missing two. or looked like it was.
My shop manual doesnt cover it. so im having a person that works on them all the time do it for me. then i will put it back together. to bad you didnt have your shop manual. now im seconcd guessing myself. :(

i can get you some more pics. just have to take them first.

i was 'missing' 2 as well! there are 4 springs on there and the 2 empty spaces were opposite of each other...in fact my mechanic said that was 'my problem'...the 'missing' springs.
now i'm thinking its normal....i didn't get to ask him why, but he COULD NOT believe that the car came from the factory with a Daikin(Exedy) disc....
bummer about the input seal...wish i could have told you for sure earlier :(

yep mine came with the same clutch as yours did, Daikin.

oh ok, i was thinking axle input seals, not the rear seal..

sure is, i now have access to the service bay lifts after hours :):)

well i found out today that you DO have to 'crack' the tranny to replace the input shaft seal.....My mechanic said that it wasn't leaking; but the rear main seal was.

hey thanks for getting back with me. atleast i know its not being torn apart for nothing. rear seal for you should be easy. just pop out the old one. then drive in the new. dont forget to lube the seal before putting it in. ;)
