Heh.. wish i could be a bit more helpfull but my setup is running the accsessories from a mx3 and not a protege but here goes..

bear with the horrid grammer and spelling it took me a few times to get the english class..

Your going to have to remove the power steering pump/ac belt first so you can get the new alternator belt on. To do this first find all the bolts you need to loosen to remove it.. really there should be 3 of them.. One attaches the power steering pump to the bracket.. you have to turn it over so the slot in the pully lines up (in case you didnt catch it its behind thepully :) note you just need to losen it a little dont try to take it out. really your doing this partyl cause its prolly sieze onto it from all the dirt. ) one and the bottom of the adjuster bracket should be a lil metal part with a long screw running threw it. with both those loosed you can start to turn the tensior which is the one that is the long bolt.. liek 2-3 in long.. oncecs it loosemd a fair amoutn push down on the power steerin pump and if it moves you got it. See if you can remove the belt.. if not keep loosening.. rinse lather repeat..

Now for the fun part.. you need to loosen your alternator.. it likly has a similar adjuster on it BUT it has a bolt on the bottom of it that just like the power steering pump needs ot be loosend a turn or two to allow free movement. its on the back side.. easy to get to from underneath the car. Then from uptop there will be really 1-2 bolts to loosen it should be a tensioner similar to the one on the power steering pump and should work in a similar fashion

to pout it back together do everything in revers.. tighten the tensioners.. tighten down the bolts.. grab the belt and turn it.. if you can get about 90 deg out of it is on there right.. any more or less than that the belt is either to tight or to loose and will cause problems..
