Haltech Q's
1. Just how good is it??
2. Can I use a MAS/MAF to get rid of that dang restrictive VAF(if so, from what car(s)??) Thanx!!! |
I thought that with most if not all ( I don't really know so...) engine management systems you could eliminate the VAF as long as you have the proper sensors??
|
Correct, you can use any type of air sensor the ECU will accept and the Haltek accepts MAFs.
While i do not have first hand experience with the Haltek, from Braden's experiences, it's a VERY versitle unit, plugged into a laptop, you can tune on the way to the track (i imagine other ECUs can do this too) but from a nieve POV (like i said, not much exp with aftermarket ECUs) the numbers Braden got from a bone stock engine, except for the leftover 3" turbo exhaust (121whp) are pretty nice. Although it takes a good tuner to get the haltek or any ECU tuned right for your particular application. I think thats the hardest part (aside from parting with $1200-1500 for the Haltek itself...<gulp>) is tuning it. |
OK....
So i dont even need an air measuring device?? OR Do you mean I need one and should use a MAF. If I need to use any ol' MAF, could I get one for a mustang (75mm) cuz that would flow really well. Thanx for the input!! |
u don't NEED to use the MAF because u can use alternative methods of air measurements (like MAP) easily when u r equipped with a Haltech ECU.
|
So basicaly, I dont to need to use any method of air measurment?? No MAS/MAF/VAF?? The Haltech does it????
|
No, you still need an air meter of some kind, what we are saying is that the Haltek can use any type. Braden used a MAP sensor on his set-up.

Thanks for the info everybody!! I have some extra money coming in soon, so I thought maybe it would be a wise investment/addition to my project.
