frankenstien motor work?

One of my civic buddies had a head and block from different motors, and i was wondering if this can be done for us? If so which heads and blocks will work. I think it was Bizob who did it but he never got back to me on which ones he used. Id like to do something like that with some other mods to have an all motor car and no forced induction.

Bizob used the base of is old 1.8l sohc which i think is called b5 mated with the 1.8l dohc head so the compression ratio is a little higher then the normal bp

SlopPerformance June-29th-2003 04:23 PM

what kind of differences could i expect

itzkcatz June-29th-2003 04:37 PM

He took a sohc bp motor and threw the dohc head on it, should of gave him about 23 hp??..Jon

SlopPerformance June-29th-2003 04:40 PM

he used a sohc 1.8 i have a sohc 1.6 if i did the dohc head will it work or just engulf in flames?

itzkcatz June-29th-2003 04:42 PM

I dont think it would work at all its a different motor .But i could be wrong. I would just get a Bp dohc motor from a boneyard and swap it in ...Jon

yea im looking to get a 1.8 dohc but all the ones from the junkyard here are shady. theres shit ripped out of the engine and what not. i just donnt trust the place in general the dude that owns it has upsidedown crosses and pentagrams tattooed on his nuckles. is there any online stores that sell the bp motor?

itzkcatz June-29th-2003 04:50 PM

How about a klze swap? Or a BPT swap

funkdaddysmack June-29th-2003 04:57 PM

You could, in theory build up a B6T. It's the same block as the 323 has with a DOHC head and turbo. I believe the earlier GTX cars had this engine, as well as the Turbo Mercuri Capri. Dunno everything that's different between the engines other than the obvious stuff (like the head). Might be worth looking into... But if it were me (and I'm doing SOME sort of motor swap eventually), I'll go either BP(T) or KL-ZE.

And right now I'm leaning towards the BPT... But it changes every friggin week :p

what is the kl-ze motor? im gonna stay away from turbo for now, i want to build it up all motor and then later on i can just toss a turbo on if i want but i do want to see how sick it can get NA.

KL-ZE is the j-spec version of the 2.5l V6 that is found in Probe GTs and MX-6s. It makes 200hp, around 170ft/lbs (or 190, i forget). The US version is rated around 170hp. They will fit into the 323/protege with some modification.... Like they need the crossmember from an MX-3, and then all the usual stuff. Engine, tranny, ecu, axles, brake assemblies, and other crazy stuff.

I would like to get this swap, and I still may, but the BPT is sounding really cool too.

the kl-ze is sounding really good right now. I understand about the ecu and axels and shit but does it mount up or do i need new motor mounts. and how bad is it to put new ones in?

anyone got a parts list for everything you need?

to do it right you'll need the whole front half of a v6 mx-3

i'm piecing together a KL-ZE right now, but hopefully mine will be making 180whp or more before nitrous.
