engine question
is the 1.6 turbo motor compatible with the 2000 1.6 protege?
i have checked on many websites saying the 1.6's of all the years had the same block, however they changed the head. so if that is true would the motor mounts be the same? |
My feeling is any motor will fit in any car if you have the green.
As far as I know they are similar at best. I doubt they are the same. differan't body style usually means differant mounting. |
not all the time, when i worked at honda motors from the new civics, accords, integras all could fit.
my friend worked at toyota and he said most of the motors in different year vehicles could interchange, so why is mazda so different? |
different engineers and designers of course
DUHHHHHH!!!! |
all i am saying is that every manufacturer has some sort of compatibilty in mind
when building their cars(possibly to cut down on costs) like the 1.8 escort motor can fit into a 323 or the turbo motor fitting into the earlier proteges or the mx-3 with a v-6 from the mx-6. does anyone understand what im getting at? |
yes, sorry for that reply earlier.
i guess (according to my paw) ford had bought out Mazda.. and alot of ford motors (light wieght, as in small and low hp'd) now are universal to Mazda cars say an escort's 1.6 ltre, and (shit) my car the only thind needed to be changed would be the transa and a few other components but deffinatly would work and fit |
Ok, I have a 2005 2.3L Mazda 3 that i am currently buying everything i need to swap to a turbo hoping for no more than 300BHP. Looking into Haltec for an ECU but I can't find the crank trigger pattern for this car anywhere. If anyone on here might know what it is it would be extremely helpful thanks!

Buy an MS3. It will be less expensive in the long run, more reliable, and smog testable. Plus you get much more than just a turbocharger. Exhaust, intercooler, ECU, interior, suspension, etc etc are all upgraded in the Mazdaspeed3.
