Engine Help please
Hey yall i just joined the forum and i wanted a little advice on my engine. I have a 92 Protege dx with an auto tranny and for some reason whenever i drive it it always sounds like the engine is revving. To be more specific ill accelerate and then when i let off the gas it sounds like the engine is still revving. However i only have this problem when the car is moving because it doesnt do it while i have the car in park. if anybody could help me out i would appreciate it. thanks in advance.

My first guess would be that the butterfly in your throttle body is sticky. so when you let off the gas, it's staying stuck open. if that's all it is, it's a pretty simple fix, just go to any auto parts store and get a can of throttle body cleaner.
however, you say it doesn't do it in park. that could be a trans problem, and i'm not too good with automatic transmissions. i would try cleaning the butterfly first. if you don't know what i mean, let me know, i'll explain better. |
hey thanks for the advice. i'm going to take u up on that. ill go get the throttle body cleaner tonight and ill do it over the weekend. thanks a lot ill let u know how it goes.

zahnbie is your car stick or automatic?

Check your transmission fluid level, it sounds like your torque convertor may be slipping.

Hey i dont want to sound stupid but could someone tell me where the throttle body is. I was looking at my engine and i couldnt figure it out. also could u tell me the easiest way to get to it as it is mighty cold outside and i dont want to be messing with the engine too long. and my car is an auto for those who asked.

If you look at your engine, on the right side, you'll see your air filter box, and coming from that a black tube around 2 and a half inches in diameter. Follow that hose up towards the engine, where it stops is at the throttle body. Take off the hose clamp and look inside. you'll see a metal flap. That's the butterfly i was talking about. good luck, let me know if you need more help.
