Engine codes

Where is the engine code located? Is it on the head or on the block?

I ask for two reasons:

I'm too lazy to go out into the freezing cold and take the snow off the cover on my car, then open the door, which is sealed with silicone, to pop the hood and check for myself. So you guys understand why I don't really feel like doing that, right?

I want to know because if it is not located on the head, I will not have any insurance problems when switching a DOHC onto my car, since all they need to see is the engine code. If it's on the head, I'm screwed: I'm gonna end up paying for some kinda crazy engine swap premium... I tuned out when my dad tryed to explain it to me to dissuade me from buying a BPT... Supposedly I'd end up paying about 4.5 times what I'm paying now if the engine code and body code don't match.... How hard is it to fake/switch those?

If I can't do the DOHC swap, I'll be stuck making a custom SOHC turbo setup. That could be interesting, but interesting is expensive.

Both engine codes are pretty much the same...
BP-SOHC
BPD-DOHC

But i do beleive they are just stamped BP on the block.

That's some of the best news I've had in a while... Thanks!!

How well do the insurance companies keep up with this? I doubt they'd like to see KL-ZE on the head in a year or so...

I'm thinking of dropping the insurance one the car when I get another car (4th gen Maxima, baby!) to save money anyways. Then I can work on it, but I won't be able to drive it.... Damn i need a job...

What are the chances of an insurance company looking under your hood to see you still have the same engine in there. I would even put in a BPT and "forget" to tell them.

That's what I had been planning on doing, but now, they're telling me that unless I have the car re-appraised, I'll only be covered up to 1500$... I've put about 8000$ into it and they told me that I'll be covered for all of it so long as I pass the legaity inspections and have the bills to back it up. That means they will be checking under the hood...:crying: I also have to figure out some way of getting my crash bumper installed behind the bodykit... That's also why I can't get the Mazstyle bumper... man would that be so much simpler!! I dunno... I have to install a resonator, too, which I don't have at the moment... The law sux. As for dopping the insurance, I recommend keeping fire theft and vandalism on it, just in case.. I pay 35$ a month for that and think it's worth it. If it's gonna be in a garage though, since you'll be working on it, maybe you should'nt bother after all...
