Dynomax super turbo muffler - loud? droning on highway?

I have a 92 lx and I am thinking about replacing my stock muffler with a Dynomax super turbo muffler. Will it annoy my neighbors? Will it give me a migrane on the freeway? Except for a monster flow filter, everying else is stock (ie, exhaust manifold, pipes, cat, resonator) Also, how big is the stock piping? Does 1 7/8" sound right? Finally, if so, is the 1 7/8 the inside diameter or the outside diameter? Thanks.

The flow of the after market muff isn't going to add any hp, all it will do is give you a nice tone  . If you doing this for extra hp you'll need to increase the diameter of the piping...This is where the increased flow comes from. I'm not saying the AM muff won't flow better, it probably will...but there would be very minimal gains. I'm running a 2.25 custom pipe from the cat all the way back to the muff. 1 7/8 dia. sound right though I'd argue with you for the heck of it and say that my oem pipe was 2". :smoke:

Speaking from experience, I have had both the Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler and the Ultra Flow muffler. The Super Turbo is NOT specifically designed for turbo cars (but could be used on them)...that is just a fancy name Dynomax gave it. The Super Turbo has some baffling inside it and the Ultra Flow is just that: a straight-thru design. The ST is not going to be as loud as the Ultra Flow. If you are going to increase the size of your piping to around 2.25 then you are going to obviously hear an increase in noise on both mufflers. I ran 2.5 pipe with an Ultra Flow and it was a little too loud for my liking. It droned like crazy on the highway. I also ran a ST with 2.25 and it was quite pleasant...I didn't hear a bumble bee effect at all. The Super Turbo sounded decent at every speed.

There you have my three cents worth...:D

I have the SuperTurbo on my car, with the stock piping (which is 1 7/8", although the muffler is 2.25"), and other than off-throttle, there was little noticeable noise. Now, when I added the Pacesetter header, it became noticeable, but not too bad. And it actually got quiet above 75mph :). I drove to Kansas (from CA) and back and it was fine.

And contrary to opinion, there is a little extra HP in a freer flowing muffler, even with the stock piping. I could tell by being able to climb the Grapevine (noted grade that goes up about 3000 feet in about 8 miles) in 5th gear, which I couldn't do previously. It was a small difference, but noticeable none-the-less.

i now know that feeling....when i pulled my header to repair it, i noticed a big drop in sound and a big drop in mid>high end power/torque, down low was a bit better than with the header, but i definetly noticed it when driving in hilly parts while i had the stock manifold on for a few days.
