dohc head
where can i find a dohc head for the 1.8 liter bp motor? also, is it a direct swap onto the 1.8 liter sohc engine?
p.s. I'd like to thank the guys who take the time to answer these questions. I just want you to know that your input is greatly appretiated:) |
need intake and exhaust manifolds, DOHC throttle body, DOHC wiring harness, DOHC Intake HBox, DOHC ECU, Timing belt, pulleys and maybe the power steering pump and bracket along with the alternator and/or bracket, A/C compressor and/or bracket and the DHC distributor/Cap/Rotor and plug wires.
thats about all i can think of right now. Oh and the DOHC dash cluster. |
ouch.

lol, yeah. i was hoping i'd at least get the intake manifold with the head. i was just wondering if would actually bolt directly onto my old block without any modification.

the thing is, that with the DOHC head comes the DOHC intake manifold, which has a VICS system (Variable Intake Control System). The SOHC ECU does not have that control capability, so the DOHC ECU must be used, along with a host of other reasons, but thats a main one.
VICS in a nutshell; the intake has 2 different size runners for each cylinder, when the engine revs normally up to 4000-4500rpm nothing changes, VICS is inactive and all is normal. But when the engine revs up to 5000prm (could be 5500rpm, bad memory) VICS opens the second set of runners, boosting top end power. In stock form, whicle still detectible, most ppl would never know it. But with an intake or exhaust mod, it becomes much more apparent. |
mazdaspeedwest,
i remember hearing someone say you could use a RPM activated switch to turn on the VIC's while still using the SOHC ECU, do you think that might work, because i have a chance to get a motor from a EGT, but it doesn't have an ECU. |
That sounds a little like VTEC. AAARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

the SOHC intake manifold will bolt up to the DOHC head, no VICS though

you might as well just go to www.car-part.com and see if they have a full BP in your area ,,
either take off what you want , or just drop the damn motor in your car ... :) It comes with the factory oilcooler and everything ... so it's a plus :D they usually run from 300 to 400 bucks .... |
