Differences between Escort 1.8L and Pro
 

I have been looking at doing a 1.8L DOHC swap into my '91 323 and was wondering if there is any differences between the Ford Escort GT 1.8L and the one from the Protege, other than the valve cover of course. Otherwise, are they exactly the same?

yes they are except the ford valve cover :-) the one out of the escort gt i think like 94 it started i have no idea if ford has another 1.8 i dont know about ...jon 93 lx

Which ECU?
 

When using a 1.8L DOHC from an Escort GT, what ECU would need to be used. Can the one from the Protege be used, or does it have to the Ford one, and if so, will it work in the Mazda 323? Sorry about all the questions, but I am still learning a lot. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help and offer advice and info.

for more help you might try going to http://www.escortracing.com they have a message board much like this one, (i also have a 92 ford escort LX 1.9L, dont laugh.. it does 16.80's in the 1/4) they have a forum for the 1.8 DOHC escorts and proteges, and a LOT of people there do motor swaps of all kinds. there is even a 5-speed KL-ZE Mercury Tracer. as far as the differences go i cant think of anthing different than what others have already posted, and if you want to get hardcore, i THINK that the Ford Racing suspension might also fit your car (it will fit my escort and protege) but you'll have to drop $1023 for it.
