cylinder pressure

i just purchased a 94 323 hatch with the sohc 1.8 engine. i had it inspected by a mechanic and noticed the cylinder pressure to be around 90 psi for each cylinder. Can anyone tell me what the pressure is suposed to be when the car is new? also, if there is some loss in pressure, i was wondering if it would help to polish the valves and maybe valve seats. especially the exhaust side. thanks for your help.:shift:

The compression for you car is 150-175 psi, is the pressure drop the same across all 4 cyl or is it different?

more all less they were the same. one was slightly higher than the rest. are you sure it should be 150psi? the car drives great and feels powerful, no way it could do that on half the compression.

the 1.8 SOHC should have a minimum psi of 121; standard is 173....
but if it seems to be running fine....:dunno:

1994 323 hatchback w/1.8L? Where can I get one of those??

hehe, lucky us down here.....
not only do we get all the cool cars from japan but our standard pump gas is either 92 or 96 octane. :D

so as to not be entirely off topic - i have three cylinders at 175 and one at 130 with likely a burnt valve  - no noticable effect on idle or driveability yet. i'm planning on cleaning up the head myself - as much as possible since this car was sposed to be a project anyway :)

Bastards! haha, j/k man. I do recall hearing about BP 323 BG Hatches running around in Canada. One smoked Vaughn and saw another one being serviced, drivin by an old lady. What I'm curious about is the specs of the stock springs on your car, because of the heavier weight BP 1.8 than a standard B6. They should be a different wire diameter and spring rates to maintain suspension balance. I'm fearful that I the ZX2 struts may be too much for my 2300lb 323 on stock springs. I'm tryin to offset a potentially tough ride with a set of soft avid T4's. Maybe one day I'll build that crazy project323. The overall dynamics would be invigorating: 2200 lbs, 300+hp, LSD, engine management and 14" Miata alloys w/ 195 tires.

Yea Jesse, I really wouldn't mind takin a trip to JP or NZ and trekkin a 323 w/ 4 wheel drive & LSD's. It's got to be amusing.
