cai question

I did a search for the info I was looking for and couldn't find it so here it is. Anyone here use the cork sport prm intake ? if so what do you think of it and how long did it take to get to you. I've heard that corksport is horrible on their shipping times. Anyways if you have a better suggestion on an intake to buy I love to hear it thanks

Are you looking for a CAI ?
I got my filter from www.mmrusa.com and I must say I am pretty happy with it.........the car pulled much better after I installed it so I could safely say that I recommend it to anyone.....
once you have the filter it shouldn't even be that hard to make a CAI....some custom piping and you are set:D

I'm thinking about just buying a weapon " R " intake now they are only 185 + shipping , and there a ram air option now :D

Identity_X Apr 27, 2002 07:30 PM

you can do that also...........I haven't heard anything bad about the Weapon R's so I guess it's a good buy:D

i had a Weapon R upper intake tube, it sucked, bad fit and too big (3" diameter)

wanna buy it?

mazda disciple Apr 27, 2002 11:16 PM

can you clarify bad fit ? and was it the hyper one or the new dragon one ?

it was the dragon pipe and the angles are not right. the ends are just stright cut and it's just a basic "S" shape. The proper fitiment for our cars is not a perfect "S" shape and needs the ends to be angle cut. The valve cover hose nipple was welded on, but the H-Box hose was just a hole with a threaded insert...chessy by all means. The worst part of all, it's a 3" ID pipe.

I bet all they did was peek at an engine pic, say oh an "S" shape will do it, used the same pipe from a Honda kit and a quick weld here and there and called it a Protege Kit. I'd eat dirt if they even did an hours worth of R&D on it. Total BS IMHO.

But does the prm include the pipe from the throttle body to the mass air sensor thingy (forgot what it was called ) or is it just a 175$ rubber elbow with a air filter on the end of it ? has anyone bought the eip one either it looks good and hows the guy about shipping ? ( the offered on the front of the website)

temrich Apr 29, 2002 07:53 PM

I second the motion about the PRM - it's the only one I've heard of that has produced real HP gains throughout the rev range (no drop off at the bottom like most of the 'big tubes'), is made to fit the car, and is a quality piece.

Spend your money wisely, and deal with the long wait times for shipping. (I've had good luck with Corksport, but it's been a while.)

the PRM intake is an aluminum elbow, not rubber. The filter is within the pipe, which is why you don't see it unless you look into it.

mazda disciple Apr 29, 2002 11:14 PM

I have'nt seen a pic of the prm intake yet, does anyone got one ? well anyways I just went to the prm website it didn't show a listing for our cars but it did show a listing for the 91 escort gt, its the same right ? if it is I think I'm gonna order one from them it might actually get to me before june

protejay Apr 30, 2002 03:19 AM

The Escort GT uses a smaller air flow meter(think its the same as the 1.6 miata)....but i really :dunno: if that means it won't fit our 1.8 air meter.....

mazda disciple Apr 30, 2002 08:30 PM

so its the same then right ? or is it the one from the mx-3 that corksports and compass use ?
