Are there any companies that make cold air intakes for a 92 protege? Im looking to change soon, so I need some ideas. I heard weapon R makes one so I will check on that. Any input would be appreciated.

Since you're LX, I'm assuming DOHC. Weapon R does make one, it's in the $250 range I beleive. You can find it on http://www.fastfours.com as well as many other sites.

If by chance you're SOHC, you're SOL like me and will have to build your own :-)

why would there be a difference for a cold air intake between a SOHC and a DOHC. If anything you would just have a little more room to work with on a Sohc .

Intake manifold.

since when was there a cold air intake for 1st gen pros? i believe the weaponR one is just a short ram. 100% positive

perhaps I'm mistaken.

cai intakes.

any intake kit or cai that would remove your "resonator box" wouldnt really be benefic for the car. the resonator box is the little black box next to the Air Flow Meter. Its used to absorb the air wave that could hit close the air flow meter. it has been proven to help low/mid power range.

so an all the way metal cai would remove the box. so it's up to you in what range of power your looking.

nb: in my own theories, the resonator box would help throttle response.

right, the hbox helps with low end torque and by removing it, throttle response isn't any different (none that i could tell) but top end is a slight bit stronger.

i just put back my hbox in my intake system and noticed the added low end, not much, but some, throttle response is pretty much the same. So imagine the top pic with the hbox inline :)

the Weapon R dragon intake is a "S" shaped pipe that goes from TB to VAF (you can still use the hbox with some creativity. Also the this pipe is a 3" ID, better to go with 2.5" Unless there is something new out, it's not a CAI.

I can make more like mine w/hbox inline and w/CAI, not all that hard.

How much would you sell us one for?

mazdaspeedwest Oct 1, 2002 10:47 PM

Well, give me a week or so (this week is already too full) and i'll make up a prototype/model from my current one. We'll go from there. I'll have to look into getting the adpaters, for some reason they are hard to find....especially in quantity.

As soon as you know post it please I might be interested also.
