BPT: Replacing Engine Components
Sweet guys, I got my BPT in yesterday. I'll be posting pics when I get home today. I don't have my camera with me here in the office :(
today we'll probably start bringing the engine up to par by replacing grommets, seals, belts, etc. I'm just going to order all the stuff from AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts. My question is...do I ask for parts for a 323 GTX? Or can I just get protege LX DOHC parts? Thanks ahead of time! |
Im prettey sure you just get LX parts. BLT has a swap guide and it lists all LX parts.

you paid that much for a nice engine and you're going to be stingy on belts and seals? :rolleyes: the OEM shit is MUCH higher quality and is *not* found at auto parts stores

Shoulda changed all the seals with it out of the car. Would have been a million times easier.

why don't you drive to your local mazda dealer and piick up your OEM parts there?

What is insulting people over the internet like? Seems to me someone would have a graphic about that. The Man you certainly seem to know your stuff. I agree that he had a point...but his comment not only didn't answer my question, but it was quite "assholish".
btw, I'm not lazy, I'm efficient. You do realize that I'm doing ALL of the work myself...the plumbing, EVERYTHING. I dont' see how that makes me lazy. and if I was cheap I wouldn't be spending 4,000 on this project alone rather than buying a new car, not to mention the other projects that are going on at the same time Originally posted by PseudoRealityX After reading the actual post...Edwin has a point. Stuff like certain seals...etc are MUCH better from the dealership. Take for instance the water pump gasket. From any discount place, you'll get a big o-ring that you have to "form" yourself when you install it. On the car I was working on, the ring itself was slightly too long, and was a huge pain in the butt!! We eventually pinched that one when were trying to install it, and went to mazda to get the real one. the REAL one was shaped properly, and the material seemed much better. The size was even right. 10 mins after we got home, it was in there perfectly. Since you're doing all that stuff now, goto the dealership and get the oem stuff, not the autozone crap. |

the OEM timing belts and other belts are MUCH better quality than the crap you get from autozone... you can tell just by looking at the rubber... the OEM ones are made by japanese suppliers, the same ones that were originally on a new mazda engine

(2nd 60k mile check-up). I'm guessing it's the OEM part. IIRC the dealer still has the records for that... just a bunch missing for when mr fix it owned the car before me... and did everything wrong. I need a new accesory belt though...mine sure is squeaky...hehe |
