BP Evolution??

What changes were made to the BP over the course of its use in Mazda vehicles??

Also.... is it just me or does the Kia Sephia manifold look bigger than the ones on Mazda's???

Thanks!!!:D

C'mon...... somebody must know!! Like I know they switched to a bigger crank snout, but I dont know when?? When did they stop using it?? Just things like that.....

input appreciated, thanks

AFAIK....

90-93 8.8:1 compression, cast iron exhaust manifold

94+ 9.0:1 compression, 'header style' exhaust manifold

95+ new VICS manifold. *looks like* it may produce more torque than the 1st gen's, but dunno for sure

kia sephia seems to have same BP as the 2nd gen pro.

TheMAN posted some info about the crank snout changes; seems like the '90 is the most prone to a failure. so far, i've had no problems with my '91....

also, at some point the oil line fitting for a turbo was 'dropped' from the BP, maybe 95??

How can I search when I dont know what I am looking for?.... thus I asked a question.

Thanks for the info Jason!! So if I am looking for a used BP to build off of should I get a 95+??

Thanks Peoples!!:D

I'm certainly no 'know-it-all' to this stuff ;)
Without some other long-time members here (you know who you are :D ) i wouldn't know much at all; but i've learned a lot here - and from other sites....

Anyways i edited my above post because i had said 'the 91-6 EGT had a 'header' manifold from the start'....well an EGT owner said it didn't, so there you go.

Also, looking closer at the 2 different VICS manifolds tonight, there is at least 1 MAJOR difference. Unlike the 1st gen's manifold, the Sephia's (2nd gen) manifold doesn't have the air valve. The air valve (used for idle control) is mounted directly underneath the upper half of our manifold. The 2nd gen's manifold does not have ANY of the mounting points, holes, etc for an air valve....So, there's hurdle #1 for anyone looking into swapping manifolds. And what's to say it'd even be worth the trouble?? I've said there may be some torque gains to be had....but do i know for sure??! Nope. Even if there are, it might not amount to much....

One other thing, the throttle body's are the same size.... i measured them both @ ~62mm.

BP is only 2 letters! Hard to search just BP dude. Sorry, looking for more info myself, on what I might have to do for the BP swap ;)

been posted before....this is basically THE source.

Yeah...well... I know these questions have been posted before too, and you're probably sick of them... but I'm having a hard time finding them, problems with the search engine, or problems with me ? ;) The 95 EGT has stiffer valve springs too, right? Wouldn't that be preferrable? I was looking to convert to both DOHC and 5-speed. Don't tell me about cost-effectiveness by just buying an LX, this is just for fun :D . Besides, the DX is lighter ;) . I can source a 95 EGT BP for $350, so... Going from SOHC --> DOHC do I have to change the wiring harness? I know the ECU will change. What about auto --> 5 speed? I know the TPS sensor is different... Will an automatic ECU run a 5-speed? If that's the case, I can switch the transmission first... otherwise I'd need to get SOHC 5sp, then DOHC 5sp ECU or something...or just do it all at once :) . I know this may seem far fetched but I want to play around :p

Well, the question is open to anybody...BUT... for the first time in like a million years, I found an LX 5-speed in my area (I'm not on the East Coast, where there are plenty, lol)......;)
