Best transmission for my swap?

Should I use the stock transmission that came with the dohc protege motor OR should I use the Ford Escort GT transmission?

I heard the Escort GT Transmission is stronger...

Any ideas?

Welcome Lyra
They have the same, engine, same transmission, same suspension.
91-96 EGT
90-94 Protege LX

I don't know the actual difference between them, but I know from experience that the LX tranny seems to be a whole lot better than the DX!

mazdaspeedwest December-25th-2002 09:52 PM

pretty sure it's just case and gears, DX is slightly taller.

I think it goes like this, but I might be wrong....

SOHC - F series tranny
DOHC - G series tranny

G is the stronger of the two. They come in LX's, EGT's and basically anything with the DOHC BP.

Hope that helps!!! Merry X-Mas!!!

Actually, the Protege LX and Escort GT use completely different suspension tuning. Springs, bars, shocks.

G-series also came in the V-6 626s, MX-6s, and Probe GTs, as well as the MX-3 GS (V-6).

very true, they have differently tuned parts, but the parts themselves will fit both the EGT and ProLX.

my bad, i should have added "basically the same"...

UH?

So am I curious about this but I did not see any alternatives to the LX tranny. Is there or is there not a better or maybe stronger lower geared one out there.

Not many Choices The strongest ive heard of is the G series (lx Dohc motor tranny). Which Should hold 300 hp . Level 10 Also told me that they could give me a beefed up Automatic transmission that would hold close to 700 hp. But i dont want a Automatic. im sure u can run 400 hp in the transmission if u know how to drive it . But ur really pushing it and will prob blow it up . Jon 93 lx

ya but the engines aren't 100% identical are they ? Aren't pro's rated at 125hp where EGTs are 127hp... ? My source is edmunds.com. So who says the tranies are also ? Small differences are possible.
