Anyone thinking of installing a custom Intake take a peek!

Just installed a k and N clone filter and adapter kit that bypassed my filter box and whoa! the car drives like a dream. The previous filter was new, so.... the box must have been stealing HP from me. I did not check with equipment, but I would guess I gained at least 10 HP by doing this. It really widened the powerband on these bad boys. For 15 bucks you can't go wrong on ebay! hehe doesn't mount cleanly... have to do some custom engineering, but well worth the cash.

10 hp is far fetched. I saw maybe 3-4 at the most. Especially since you have no other mods.

you may be right :)

It was just a guess as I am just getting into cars, at least tweaking them. But there is a REAL noticable difference in performance and power. If 3-4 HP gains is all then its well worth it :) My little commuter is much peppier now.

I'm assuming that because the intake is letting in more air, more fuel is being mixed in per stroke. Have you noticed any decreases in mileage?

the stock air box lets air in from the fender well using a pipe thats less than 2 inches in diameter and then swirls it through a small tube and through the restrictive filter, then straight to your VAF.. OF COURSE you're going to see, hear, and notice a difference... and butt dyno-ing your modifications isn't the worst way.. some kids slap on stickers and claim to own the road! bud, fuel consumption may drop 1 mpg.. my gas mileage is consistant upon environmental changes, the way i drive, but on 2 consistantly similar tank fulls, i can't remember filling up more than usual with my cone filter on. slight drop in gas mileage, constant hissing sound, and more frequent need to change air filters (every 10,000 i'd recommend) as opposed to every 15,000 miles.. i think you're in business for the gain you'll see. while it may not be 10hp, you'll feel the difference in your high end. unfortunately, with full intake and full exhaust on these cars, you really can't expect more than 20 hp... and even that would be a far shot. our cars just aren't designed to fully take advantage of these modifications... where as some domestics fair out better and yield better gains. it's a toss up anyway you throw it.
peace
