Has anyone done a 4WD conversion on a north american BG Protege / 323 ?

Does anyone know who can make custom driveshafts ?

Nobody has because its not worth it. And nobody wants to waste their money and destroy what would most likely be an otherwise fine Protege to mod or use for a daily driver.
You really want an AWD pro?? Find one in the auto trader.

Seee ... the problem is .... i have the GTR engine/trany with the GTR rear diff ( 5 bolt )

And i have a spare GT in my garage doing nothing.

I do not have the driveshaft tunel and the actual driveshaft.

Just wonderign if anyone did this before to give me some pointers and save me some money.

Is there a difference in the GTR 4wd system ? Are the tranies and the diffs the same as in the GTX or not ?

The best way to do it would be to find an awd and take picture of how everything is placed then check what would have to be modified to fit the awd on a fwd protege.

Ahh, I see what you're saying. Though I still think you'd be better off finding a clean AWD pro and swap that. Please don't cut up the GT they're somewhat hard to find in Canada.

Yeah, I meant the GTs aren't that common.
But thats cool, I just hope there's a clean one around when I am in the market to do a BPT swap.

the HKS filter on it has a sticker with 77,000km mark on it as the next filter change.

at what intervals does one change filters ?

Does anyone know if the rear driveshafts are the same for the GTX/GTR as they are for the 4WD Canadian model ?

How about the gas tank .... is that also 4WD specific ?

the 323's wheel base is 50mm shorter than the CDM 4WD/AWD, adn thus the drive train is 50mm shorter. and iirc the 323 is narrower than the protege.

i know they DO NOT have identical unibodies.

According to the FAQ, the AWD drivetrain in the North American AWD cars is relatively weak. Though I'm not sure just what are the weak spots. The Tranny is supposedly the same as in the 323 GTX, and gearset (rear differential??)

This is what it says in the FAQ:

Supposedly it is possible, but almost nobody has done it outside of professional rally
circles. The U.S.-Canadian 4WD model has the correct rear floorpan to clear the
required AWD hardware; however, the fragile 4WD drivetrain used in these cars
shares only the gearset and gearbox the stronger GT-X drivetrain

Gearset & Gearbox .... so the GTX/GTR have stronger drishafts and that is it ?

So the GTX / GTR 4WD driveline is weak ?

How much torque does it take to snap one ?

Would they not make the GTR driveline a bit stronger to compete in WRC ?

The major problem posted by the guys at (http://www.323gtx.co.uk/pn/index.php...BB2&file=index )is that the transfert case in the transmission is not design for hard launch or abuse.

I have no idea myself.
For assumption sake, I'd say that just the tranny and rear diff, not any axles or the driveshaft. But don't quote me on that because I honestly don't know.
The FAQ has reliable info, but I'm not the one who wrote it so I don;tt know all.
I'm just trying to throw out some ideas and suggestions.
