air flow mass question

on the air flow mass there is a little door that swings open and closed like a valve almost. I was wondering if i were to remove this would anything happen. I thought maybe this it is how it measures the air going in. in relation to how far the door opens. if not I could see this being a big restriction device and when removed it would open up a good amount of air. let me know what you think. anything is appreciated.

Flapper in maf unit

Don't do it!!! If my memory serves well, that flapper is used to tell the ecm how much air flow is going through the maf. Maf's aren't cheap new($497 at the dealer) but you can get one cheap in a junk yaard.

uhhh, yes, the flapper door is most certainly needed. You are correct, it's there for a reason, to let air in or not.
