91GTX Engine Swap

I know that finding a 91GTX engine is very hard, but if you happen to do a engine swap are there other things you need besides the engine. Would you need a pulley system, attachments etc. Also, how would a turbo fit under the hood of a 91DX. Any guesses on how much it would cost? Future possibility, or maybe supercharging the car. Thanks.

As far as finding a GTX engine, you are wrong. The GTX is fairly common to locate. The GTR motor is the hard one to find. If you do the swap, it is recommended that you use a matching ecu (ex. GTX engine & GTX ecu). If you can't locate a GTX ecu, you will need a LX ecu. You don't have to worry about chagning pulleys or anything since the GTX motor is basically that same as a LX motor so it basically just drops right in to the engine bay. As far as supercharging goes, many people have thought of going this route, however, there are clearance issues and there are no superchargers made specifically for the Protege.

everything you need to do the engine swap is at http://www.barelylegaltransplants.com/ after entering the site go to the link on the left "blt swap guide" and presto.

Right now im intertaining the thought of just building my lx and turbo charging it, think about it. the gtx engine is almost the same as the lx.

www.corksport.com has the engine for $1099 and is in Portland Oregan.

http://www.twistedperformance.com/engines1.html has the engine for $875 and is in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

no you can't

and you'll need a better fuel pump, and an intercooler, etc :)

I just finished my swap about 2 months ago on my 93 lx. I had to
modify some things to make it work. for example i had to change my ecu but instead of putting in a gtx ecu i put in sent my stock ecu to corksport were they re prorammed my lx ecu for about 500
bucks us.they give you the option of 2 programs, 500 cc injector program or the stock gtx program. i also had to change the flywheel. this project all together set me back about $3500.
but the swap was easier than i thought and well worth the time and money spent.

so when corksport reprogrammed or reflashed your ecu you didn't have to use the J spec wireing harness?

Quit talking out of your ass. no you cant! for starters the location of the miata supercharge, vs the location needed for the protege would involve flipping over the supercharger. you will need a "custom" pulley and reverse rotation shaft.

ok so a reverse shaft and some pulleys can be done so now that aint really that big of a problem much easier then buying a gtx motor swapping it in then tuning it and then u wont have lag

Or not. Dropping a GTX in is pretty easy if you have everything there. A ton of custom fab'in woulf be needed for a supercharger, when the GTX drops in perfect.

yeah i guess ur right but it would be a cool concept to have possibly the only supercharged first gen pro

Awesome, I am doing this real soon, I didn't know corksport could reprogram the ecus for ya. Whats the differences in the two programs? Should I go for the stock gtx or the 500cc one?

Did you get your engine from corksport or somewhere else?
