Talking spin on filter conversion...DONE!

Finally had the time to do the conversion, very easy to do. If you plan to do this, do it at your own risk.
the tool you need are this:

The first thing I did is add an engine flush additive. switching to fully synthetic I figure that I needed to clean the internals of the engine:

After having the engine running at idle for 15 mins. it was time to drain the oil.
Next, the first thing to do is to disconnect the oil sensor:

There are 4 10mm that you need to take off:

After that the oil boby assemble will come off:

After cleaning the surface you are ready to transfer the sensor to the new part:

depending on the oil filter, you may have to file the new oil body to allow the 1 1/4 turn to install the oil filter:

Now you can install the gasket with 1 bolt to hold it in place, it makes it a lot easier to align the gasket:

Hello.

First post here.

Is the filter and housing specific to Amsoil?
Where did you purchase the housing?
Now that you can use spin on filters, can you use commonly available spin on filters, or must you use the Amsoil filters?

Thanks for the detailed pictures.

Amsoil high mile oil

I run the Amsoil 25,000 mile oil in my 2005 GMC Sierra with a 5.3 L V8.
the truck currently has 127,200 miles. I first put the Amsoil in at 30K miles, then 50k, then every 25K miles. I use the Amsoil filters too.
My last oil change cost me $96 but I bought 8 Qts of oil so I can add when needed. (truck takes 6 Qts)
I check the oil level regularly and it burns about 1.5 Qts between the 25K mile oil changes, but the truck runs great. I was very hesitant at first, but at almost 100K Miles since switching to Amsoil, I'm sold.
I also run it in the pre-mix in my 2-stroke dirtbikes at 40:1 for the past 5-years and have never had an issue. Powervalves are so clean after taking the heads off to inspect them.
Just got an '06 Mazda3 Hatchback and will need to do some research since this 2.3L calls for 5W20.
How long do you go between oil changes?
